How do I verify in order to get my Local IBAN?
Please keep in mind that we may ask you to verify your identity again to get a local IBAN. But no worries, you can do this in minutes from your phone as we explain here. 🤳
When you apply for a foreign sub-account, we have to run some more checks and this can include an additional verification to comply with the local regulations.
What's the difference between Local IBAN and Local Currency?
In order to get the full local experience, we've launched Local IBANs and Local Currencies. However both features have a different way to improve your local experience, please see how:
- Local IBANs are IBANs based on the local Dutch, German, French, Irish and Spanish banking metrics and operate in Euro. You can see more on how the Local IBANs work here.
Important note: All the sub-accounts you open within the app, no matter of the country code in the IBAN, are supported and opened by bunq NL.
- Local Currencies is a feature which gives you the opportunity to send, receive and pay in one of the many local currencies we currently provide. For example, you can have a South African Rand local currency account, but not a South African IBAN. When you open a Local Currencies sub-account, you're getting a GB IBAN since the foreign currency isn't held in the Netherlands, but in the UK. You can learn all about operating with this cool feature here
Good to know
- If you've been through an iDnow verification flow already - you won't repeat the verification process for your Local IBAN
- This feature isn't available for minors, meaning that you must be at least 18 years old in order to use this feature
- The currently-available countries for local IBANs are Germany, France, Spain, Ireland and the Netherlands 🌍
