How do I send a payment file?

With our new Payment File feature, you can execute a file with payments wherever you are, whenever you want.

Simply open the file with your bunq app (via email or attachment), confirm the transactions and execute the payments at once. No extra hardware needed!

How does it work?

Please follow the steps below to send a Payment File:

Open the file with the bunq app
Tap send payment
Click on continue
Paid ✅

Note: we suggest to always use the format <RmtInf> <Ustrd>description</Ustrd> </RmtInf> in order to add a description or reference to the transfer.👍

Available for bunq Pro and bunq Elite users
For paying large amounts additional authentication is always required, unless you've recently performed additional authentication within the same question.
Employees having full access to a sub-account belonging to their Business account, can't choose it for a batch payment.

FAQ

Q: I opened an XML file and sent the payment. But only now I realize there was a mistake! Can you book the payment back? Will you cover the damages due to this?
A: It is never possible to book back an SCT payment, as the inter-bank system does not allow the refund option. The best way to get your money back is getting in touch with the recipient to ask if they can send the money back. bunq is not liable for mistakes in the XML file processing: we always show you a preview of the payment(s), so that you can double-check that all details are correct.

Q: I've some XML files on my computer that I'd need to process. Is there a way to send them to my bunq app directly?
A: At the moment, you'll need to open the XML file on your phone. Only when you open the XML file from your phone, you'll have the option to open it with the bunq app for the processing of the payments. To do this, you can, for example, send the file to your email address and open the email from your phone. Of course, we welcome your feedback on Together for future improvements!

Q: How do I import an XML file on iOS?
A: You can airdrop the XML file to your iPhone, download it from your accounting app or have in your email app. Then simply tap on it and select the option to open it with bunq. The bunq app will open the file and process the batch.

Q: How do I import an XML file on Android?
A: You can save the file on the storage of your phone, or download it. Then choose to open it with the bunq app. However, it's good to know there's an exception with Gmail that doesn't allow opening of XML files.

Q: Is it possible to schedule the XML batch to be paid in the future, instead of immediately when uploading?
A: Unfortunately, the processing date is not considered and the payments are directly processed.
