• What is the “Primary” sub account?

    Hi 👋 there,
anyone understands how to select for a card the primary sub account when using Auto Select?

    Scenario.
Card set as Auto Select for Primary sub account.
Sub account not set for category “Car”
If I get a card charge categorized as “Car” based on which criteria a sub account is selected?
As the primary is set to Auto Select?
Is the primary then picked from the “Invoice from” sub account set up to pay bunq invoices?

I hope you managed to understand my question. I open a support request but looks like they do not understand what is the question and they keep referring to “Main” sub account but there is no “Main” sub account ☹️

Thank you for help 🙏 and your thoughts.

@Gianguig#271100 I don't use the Auto Select feature myself as I prefer budgeting externally. But my guess would be it's the first sub-account of your account that still exists. That support talks about a "main" sub-account existing is, ... sad.

        Thank you 🙏 for comment.
I am waiting for support to clarify after re iterating my question in a different format.
If it is indeed the first account open… which I might not even know which was… there is still a miss on how to set a different one as “primary” account on cards when “Auto select” is picked.
Let’s see what I get as final answer.

          Hi 👋
after 3 more rounds of explanations looks like it had been recognized that there is a bug 🐞…. I would rather say a missing functionality.
That goes on top of the other missing or wrongly designed parts of Easy Budgeting… like no complete overview and missing feature to view budget limits and set different limits. We had those before but now no more.
Nice Easy Budgeting but kind of rushed out half baked.
          Cheers 👋

I encountered the same problem today and it seems like the account was either selected randomly or based on which is the account for bunq invoices.

                hi 👋,
I opened a bug. According to bunq when a category does not have a designated sub account, charges should be going to what is chosen as back up account on the card.
It is not working though as they say and frankly it is weird, then you loose the cool sub account back up feature.
Let’s see when it gets fixed and how.
                cheers

                  Hey,
I just experienced that it is not working, indeed. I wanted to pay something that is not categorised as one of the categories for which I enabled Easy Budgeting, and the amount would have been deducted from my oldest sub-account, which didn't have any money on. This account is not my secondary account for the card I used.
I hope it is fixed soon since this is quite annoying.

                    a year later

Jus saw the samwe problem. It is not the very first account open, as that one would be the "payday" account. Filled out support request, to at least understand the logic.

Also in my case, the budgeting subaccount was charged, which did not have a matching budget category. Kind of basically a function of the easy budgeting .

@vvb#286120 The Payday account is the same as your billing account. You can change the billing account in the settings.

Now with the new Budgeting feature of bunq Update 24, I still wonder what account is being charged with Auto Select when there is no budget for a category. I simply can't figure out what the default account then will be or how to set it.

@tobyx#286859 For me it's the IBAN that's displayed on the physical card itself. But it might be a coincidence...

@tobyx#286859 Hey there 👋 Thanks for your question! Note that your default IBAN chosen by Auto Select will be your oldest active personal payment sub-account in case your have a Mastercard. For a Maestro card, this sub-account will be the IBAN that's displayed on the card 🌈

Thank you for the response. In order to use the Easy Budgeting feature at all, it would be necessary to be able to "Select sub-account to use when there's no match for a budget." Just randomly (I know, "oldest account" is not random, but ... yeah) selecting an account is not really a good idea. Having multiple EUR accounts is kind of the idea behind bunq :D

Also, currency sub-accounts kind of collide with the budgeting feature. I don't have a good solution for that.

Thank you for your feedback both! I've passed this onto our team so we can improve Easy Budgeting and make this feature even clearer 🌈

                                  4 months later

I closed a Savings account (my oldest account), now all of a sudden Auto Select wants to use my Subscriptions account for any category that isn't allocated to an account. It used to pick my 'main/everything else' account - what's the logic there? It's mindboggling that a feature like @tobyx suggested doesn't exist.

Is there any way around this that doesn't involve setting a budget for all other categories?
