Once you close your account, it becomes temporarily inactive. This means that you can re-activate it at a later time and continue banking with us.

What happens when I close my account?
When you decide to close your account, you actually deactivate it temporarily. This means that you can always easily reopen your account at any time and continue using our services.
In the meantime, however, no funds can be received or sent from your account.
How can I reopen my account?
- Download and open the bunq app
- Use your e-mail or telephone number to log in
- "This account has been closed" screen appears
- 🟢 Reopen account
- Click on Reactivate account
- Done!
Important note: Keep in mind that there’s no need to open a brand new bunq account from scratch - simply log back in to reactivate your old account. Forgotten your security code? See how to restore it here
How can I export a statement from my closed account?
Simply open the bunq app and enter your security code to enter your closed account. Once you login successfully you’ll see a screen confirming that your account is closed. From there, follow these easy steps:
- Click on 🟠Export Statement
- Select sub-account for export
- Set the time Period
- Choose the Format
- Export the statement

How can I stop receiving emails from bunq?
If you want to unsubscribe from our email updates, you can simply follow these easy steps:
- Go to your email
- Click on the last marketing email you’ve received from us
- Scroll to the bottom
- Select Unsubscribe
- Follow the hyperlink’s flow
How can I close my account permanently?
If you want to disable the option of ever reactivating your account and close it permanently, please reach out to support and we'll take care of it for you. Please be aware that this means you'll never be able to access it again, such as for tax information, or other cases.
