Please keep in mind at all times: bunq never calls you. We will never ask you for any personal information or login codes. If someone calls you and asks you for sensitive information, hang up immediately.
In the past years, online fraud - including banking fraud - has been rapidly growing. On a daily basis cyber criminals send 3.4 billion emails, which is over a trillion phishing emails per year (nearly increased by more than 150% compared to previous years)!
These scams are designed by expert posers impersonating banking employees, institutions or official authorities (government, tax authorities, etc). Through manipulation they extract private information so that they can get access to your computer, tablet, app and/or bank account(s).
Being up to date and knowledgeable about how fraudsters operate, helps prevent you from falling victim. Please read this knowledge topic carefully to stay clear of fraud attempts.
How to spot a fraudulent attempt?
Here are the main things you should be aware of:
- We will never call you via phone! We’ll never ask you for your personal details, login information, payment activity or any other detail regarding your bunq account via SMS, email or on a phone call. All official communication is done via the secured bunq app;
- We’ll never communicate important information to you outside the bunq app. The bunq app is the only reliable source of truth you can use! In most fraud cases you receive an SMS message / email claiming that suspicious account activity occurred or you need to click a link to login - do not interact with any links or communication from there, directly contact us via the app or here to help us keep you and others safe.
What happens if I fall victim to phishing?
If you notice any suspicious activity, secure your account immediately by blocking all access to your account through the app. If for whatever reason that’s not possible, contact our SOS hotline via +31208083666.
Also make sure to report the issue via our Report Form for immediate investigation. We'll block all accounts instantly and do our best to retrieve already transferred funds. Our specialists will keep you informed through the safe support chat in the bunq app.
