At bunq, your security is our top priority. We use multi-layered security to ensure that your account, funds, and personal information are kept safe. This topic gives you an overview of the security measures we are using in our systems to protect you from fraudsters.
Detection for remote access software
We've implemented a system against fraudulent use of remote access apps, such as AnyDesk. Our system will (try to) spot remote access apps installed on your device and place a payment limit on your account to prevent loss of funds.

Security Code reset
If you suspect that another person has illegitimate access to your bunq account, you can reset your Security Code to regain access to your bunq account. For your safety, all other active login sessions will end after you reset your Security Code.If you want to log into your bunq account on a new device, you need to again verify your identity. This measure enhances the security of your account, particularly if you suspect it has been compromised.

IBAN-name check
If you transfer money from any of your bunq Bank Accounts to an external bank account, and our system detects a mismatch between the recipient's name and their IBAN, we will ask you to check and confirm. Not only does this feature reduce the likelihood of incorrect IBAN transfers, but it also adds an extra layer of security by minimizing the risk of fraudulent transactions.

Additional security warnings
We've added additional security alerts to keep you vigilant when carrying out actions that could potentially lead to you being scammed. These enhanced security notifications will pop up in situations such as approving a login, initiating a payment, or modifying your daily limit. These timely warnings are designed to prevent you from falling into a fraud trap.
Safety tips
- We will never call you via phone! We’ll never ask you for your personal details, login information, payment activity or any other detail regarding your bunq account via SMS, email or on a phone call. All official communication is done via the secured bunq app;
- We’ll never communicate important information to you outside the bunq app. The bunq app is the only reliable source of truth you can use! In most fraud cases you receive an SMS message / email claiming that suspicious account activity occurred or you need to click a link to login - do not interact with any links or communication from there, directly contact us via the app or here to help us keep you and others safe.
