What’s an eSIM and how do I get one?

An eSIM is an electronic SIM card that lets you activate and use mobile data plans without needing a physical SIM. It’s an easy and flexible way to stay connected anywhere in the world. Here’s how to activate one from the bunq app:

iOS users

  1. Go to the ✈️ Travel tab
  2. Tap Get eSIM to be redirected to your phone’s settings to install your eSIM

Android users

  1. Go to the ✈️ Travel tab
  2. Tap Get an eSIM
  3. Tap Install an eSIM for Free
  4. Follow the steps to install your eSIM
  5. Open your device’s settings
  6. Tap Allow
  7. Tap Continue to activate your new eSIM

What are the prices and plans?

Prices vary by destination based on local offers. To see what’s available, just check the app for plans and prices. You can choose country-specific, or global data.

How do I top up my eSIM?

Once we see you’re low on data, we’ll let you know with an in-app notification. Just tap on it to easily choose from the available plans. If you miss the notification, you can always follow these steps to top up your balance:

  1. Go to the ✈️ Travel tab
  2. Tap the eSIM button to open your eSIM
  3. Tap Add Data
  4. Select your destination and plan
  5. Tap Buy Data, we’ll connect you automatically when you land

    How can I get free worldwide data?

If you are a bunq Elite user, you get 8 GB of free global data every year! No need to buy data packages - just install an eSIM from the bunq app and your 8 GB will activate automatically upon arrival at your destination!

Note 1: Even if you’ve used up all your vouchers with the old eSIM model, all bunq Elite users will still get an extra 8 GB of free data to use this year.

Note 2: You’ll automatically get a fresh 8 GB of free data every calendar year.

I’ve installed my eSIM with the old model. What now?

If you’ve previously installed eSIMs using the old model, you’ll need to download a new eSIM to enjoy the latest benefits:

  • You can always top up your eSIM in the bunq app, even if you don’t have a connection;
  • Get access to better, more competitive pricing;
  • Manage your data directly in the bunq app.

    How can I use my bunq Points to get data?

You can get 2 GB for 3,000 bunq Points by following these steps:

  1. Tap on your Profile in the top left corner
  2. Tap on the Points tile below your forest’s overview
  3. Select the “2 GB data on eSIM” under “Rewards”
  4. Tap on “Claim” and your eSIM will be automatically topped up

How do I deactivate my eSIM?

iOS users

  1. Go to your iPhone’s Settings
  2. Tap on “Mobile Service”
  3. Tap on the eSIM you want to delete
  4. Scroll down and tap delete eSIM

Android users

  1. Go to your phone’s Settings
  2. Tap on “Connections”
  3. Go to “SIM manager”
  4. Select the eSIM you want to delete
  5. Tap “Remove”

How do I contact Support?

If you have any problem with your eSIM, you can contact us through our Support Center. Just follow these steps:
