When opening your Business account in France, we might request you to provide us with the Articles of Association (in French: "statuts de la société" or “statuts constitutifs”) of your business.
The “statuts” are the Articles of Association, the foundational legal document that defines the rules, structure, and governance of a French company. They are mandatory for creating any formal business entity.
What does the Articles of Associations contain?
- Company name (raison sociale)
- Legal form (SARL, SAS, SA, etc.)
- Business purpose (objet social)
- Registered office address
- Capital amount and shareholder contributions
- Governance rules (e.g., director powers, shareholder meetings)
- Duration of the company
How can I obtain the Articles of Associations?
- Via Infogreffe (official registry: You can request a copy of the “statuts constitutifs” (Articles of Association) from the Infogreffe website:
- Go to: https://www.infogreffe.fr
- Search for your company using its SIREN number or name
- Go to the company’s detail page
- Choose “Documents officiels” or “Dépôt d’actes”
- Select the statuts constitutifs document
- Pay a small fee (usually a few euros)
- Download the PDF instantly
- In Person or by Mail at the Commercial Court Registry: You can also obtain the statuts directly from the Greffe du Tribunal de Commerce (Commercial Court Registry) where your company is registered:
- Bring your ID and company details (SIREN number)
- Request a copy of the articles of association
- Pay the administrative fee
- They can provide it to you by mail or for pickup
- If You’re the Founder or Legal Rep – From Your Own Records: If you founded the business or are its legal representative:
- You should already have a signed copy of the statuts from when the company was registered
- Or, log into your account on MonIdenum.fr or your company’s legal service provider (if one was used, like Legalstart, CaptainContrat, etc.)
Are the statuts public?
Yes. Once filed with the Commercial Court Registry (greffe du tribunal de commerce), they become public and anyone can request a copy through Infogreffe.
Can I download the statuts instantly?
Yes. On Infogreffe, once payment is complete, the PDF is available for immediate download.
