If you tap on the declined transaction there should be a reason why it was declined. Do you see anything there, beneath the amount?

@Tim#51228 All it says is “ de pinbetaling werd geweigerd”
Pin payment was refused
Bunq card is an immediate debit card. All payages are not connected to the network, so the card can not debit. If you travel often in France I recommend https://www.bipandgo.com/nl/. The payment is done at the end of the month and they accept the bunq iban
Excuse my english
@BigBoss#51397 Agreed, that works nice. In the Netherlands they can be obtained from ANWB as well.
@MadMocro#51227 The website of the French autoroutes listed that Maestro in general is not supported. I’ve been able to use my MasterCard without problems last summer but I’ve heard mixed experiences so far. I’d definitely try with the MasterCard. 🙂
When I was there a year ago I noticed the toll boots were trying to use the magnet strip and not the chip. You need to specifically enable the magnet strip on your card.
@Ramsy#51504 Yes, that is the problem. I noticed this too in a parking garage in Germany when trying to use the card. You can’t input a pin so it tries to read the magnetic stripe on the card, which is blocked in the EU. You were able to enable this on your own, but that option is now gone. bunq tries to be smart about it by enabling it when you use it in the US, but sometimes we need this in the EU as well.
Therefore, also like others mention in this topic, you still need a ‘backup’ creditcard to actually handle all payment situations... I hope bunq gets it right in the future though!
As a workaround you temporarily can enable the US as allowed country, so that the magnet strip is working.
@Marco#51514 That is great to know. For some reason I assumed that the magnet stripe then still only works in the US, but it makes sense that this wouldn‘t be necessarily the case. Great tip! 🤩
Little caveat is, if I recall correctly, that the terminal itself needs to be online -or- you need to have used the card previously on an online terminal to let the card know it may enable its magnetic stripe. In the scenario I had the terminal was offline and without pin (magstripe).
@Marco#51514 Great tip! Also good to know for bunq for some improvements in the app😀
@Marco#51514 I have added US to the allowed countries. But still the maestro card gets refused.
The bunq MasterCard works every time.
All toll terminals so far are online. I immediately get a push notification from bunq with the accepted or refused transaction.
So the bunq MasterCard saves the day.
