  • Costs of api keys

Hello dear bunq team (and fellow users/developers),

there's undeniably a lot of change going on, but one thing I noticed is that the pricing of the api keys has become a little bit unclear at the moment.

I tried to order an API key in the app and was greeted with an "upgrade to premium" popup. So no api keys... Okay. I still checked out the pricing document on the website: https://bunq.com/en/pricing

And found this under the section "Pricing from the 1st of August 2017":

Okay. Seems like all accounts are able to access API keys. I'm on a grandfathered account with the 1 euro bank card though, so what does it say about the old pricing?

This is what I found under "bunq api - Consumers":

(Mind that it's for consumers, I plan to develop something for myself. Further, this is for accounts from before the 1st of august).

So I contacted support and was told that this was a mistake in the docs and that it was going to be fixed ASAP. Okay, I'm glad to help but I wouldn't it be a good idea to at least have a sandbox api key to test your implementation? It seems harsh to pay 8 euro per month if I'm a happy free user, but I want to test implementing an app or so.

I'd love to hear your opinions on it! :)

Best wishes,

Calvin

Hey! New user here, I signed up after August first, noticed the same in the pricing claiming API keys to be free for all new accounts, but trying to make one tells me to upgrade too.

I'm guessing the "free" listing in the pricing is a mistake, but since banking APIs will become mandatory next year anyway, maybe turn that mistake into reality?

    Just a subtle suggestion :-)

      Hey Jaron!

Sandbox api keys are of course free as Jasper says. But asking for a API key will require you to upgrade to premium.

If you need a sandbox key let us know in the support chat!

Sure, I understand that, but your current pricing list suggests otherwise.

I'd say either make the price list follow reality or make reality follow the price list ;-)

          This document is up-to-date: https://www.bunq.com/en/pricing

It shows an X in the bunq free column, in the API row.

Ah, good, it was corrected! I was still emailed the wrong version after sign up, though. (Long after the date stamp of that document... September 8th was my sign up.)
