  • Switching to Bunq, Joint Accounts, and Premium Membership

So I want to ditch the stiffs at Goliath Bank and switch to Bunq, but the process is confusing.

Currently, my wife and I have joint accounts. If I use the switch service:

• will it switch everything over to Bunq, given that Bunq accounts are not in joint names?
• will my wife and I BOTH need Bunq Premium? Or is it enough for me to have it, and share an account with her?
• depending on the answer to the above question, will we both have cards to use?

No idea about the switch. For your other questions:

You don’t both need premium perse, but you do need it if you both want to have cards. You could ask bunq for permission to share one card with your wife, but it is possible that they will decline this request. In which case you’re screwed and forced to pay €16/month, or €10 in a pack, if you want cards for both, hehe.

Thanks very much. I didn’t know €10 for both is an option. No way I pay €16 though.

Bonjour nous avons été dans le même cas il faut que ta femme ouvre egalement un compte Nina premium et créer un compte joints

@Toma-Cyan-Butterfly#68284 Bunq doesn't support the switch service for joint accounts. So if you want to keep joint accounts you can't use it and have to do it all by hand.
Actually I would recommend that. You can have 25 accounts at bunq so you can have all your car bills on a different account than the housing bills, energy bills, groceries, eating out and so on.

You probably don't do this now and if you do use the switch service everything switches to one account. Note that automatic switching at companies to a new number will only work for direct debits. So for payments to your other bank account (salary, "toeslagen" and so on) you need to do this manually anyway.

@LH-Black-Wolf#68288 I have a shared account with my wife and I have premium account while she doesn't. My wife is using one of my cards with our shared account. Only limitation is that she can't link it to her own account.

@Abel-Blue-Wolf#68299 That’s not allowed per the terms without explicit permission from bunq, hence why I mentioned it.

                @Toma-Cyan-Butterfly#68284 Hi 👋🏼 Toma,

Cool that your are thinking about switching to bunq completely.

                Regarding to the switch service..
you can find more information also here: https://www.bunq.com/en/terms-switchservice
Be aware that unfortunately joint accounts can't be switched automatically.

                Regarding sharing..
To share an account with you wife only one of you needs bunq 🌈 Premium! For the other one bunq 🌈 Free would be enough. But if you both fully wants to benefit from the cool Premium features, you both need bunq 🌈 Premium.

Let us know if you have any questions!

@LH-Black-Wolf#68303 Really? So I am not allowed to have my wife use my card. Good that I didn't read the small print :-)

@Abel-Blue-Wolf#68308 The terms say that’s indeed not allowed unless you ask for and get permission from bunq. If the sole purpose is having a joint account I think that’s a bit ridiculous, but alas: those are the rules.

I've actually just said to Bunq that they need to offer some kind of family pack for couples. It is ridiculous to have to pay 7,99 twice if you want to both be able to have cards. There should be like a 50% discount option for a second premium and offer a family pack for like 11.99. I love bunq and all the features but I'm quite disappointed that they don't offer this (yet).

@Toma-Cyan-Butterfly#68292 This isn't an option though. There's bunq pack for 20 but it means you'd both pay 10 each, not together.

@LH-Black-Wolf#68312 I will ask Bunq now. Don't think the article below is meant to prevent sharing a card with my wife. I'll keep you posted on their response.

                          Chapter 10: Ownership
Your bunq card will stay property of bunq and we will decide what information will be printed on your card. For safety reasons you are not allowed to change, copy, lend or sell your card without our explicit prior written consent.
We can block or change the functionalities of your bunq payment. In case we do so, we will of course inform you as soon as possible.

@Joreel-Olive-Lynx#68320 You can sell the remaining two spots to another bunqer, making it €5 each. 2x €5 = €10 total for them and 2x €5 from others make the €20 fee. So they’d both only pay €5 each/€10 combined.

@LH-Black-Wolf#68328 I'm not going to share a bunq pack with two strangers. What if they don't pay me for it? They'd get premium for free and I'm out of 10 euros each month?

@Joreel-Olive-Lynx#68330 If they don’t pay, you kick them out of the pack. Very simple. It’s not 100% without risk for sure, and indeed a bit stupid of a construction which causes these hassles, but it isn’t a major risk either. Tell them to pay 5 days in advance through automated payment, if they don’t: kick ‘em out and find a new one in time for the renewal. Finding a new member is usually sorted within a day as there’s always people looking to join.

@Josibe84#68330 I do this. Never had a problem with people not paying. Most people are alright, and even then it‘s about 5 euros.

@Abel-Blue-Wolf#68322 Bunq is checking with a senior employee. Not a trivial question. I'll keep you posted 😊
