Just an idea. Maybe it's even easy to do.

American companies do not recognize the power behind the EU, so each country has its own App Store, which in turn only accepts Mastercard or Visa with the country-specific code. Unfortunately, there are things where you need 2 or 3 different iTunes accounts to buy the apps you want. If you want to have books or movies in the original language, the situation is even worse.

Bunq has always been a pioneer in building bridges. My Maestro is Dutch 🇳🇱, Thanks @Ali and @bunq we had short term possibility on a Spanish🇪🇸 payment card. my Mastercards are Austrian 🇦🇹.

Maybe with the Online Mastercards it will be possible to rebuild this bridge between United States of America 🇺🇸 and the 'United States of Europe'

It would be nice if, when ordering the online MasterCards, we could choose which of Bunq's supported country codes should have the cards.

Tamas 🇪🇺🇦🇹🇭🇺 As far as I know they already do this. If you live in Italy or Germany you get a MasterCard that you can add to Apple Pay but when you move in The Netherlands you don't. Apple can tell from the country that is attached to the card.

But as far as I know bunq does not accept an address outside of the EEA so you can't get an American card.

Tamas 🇪🇺🇦🇹🇭🇺 Of course it would be cool, but I don't think bunq is allowed to do that. It would also cause some problems with Apple Pay and G Pay, as bunq is only allowing cards from official countries.
That you have a Dutch Maestro, Austrian Mastercard and Spanish Payment Card is not because bunq wanted to build "bridges" with that, it's because you used an unofficial way to do that, a way that got N26 customers kicked out when they did that there.
So we are lucky with bunq not being "angry" if you just want to use A Pay or G Pay a bit earlier, but it's definitely nothing official

When a company is not accepting your card because it's a card from your home country, than there are reasons for that. Legal reasons in case of streaming providers and other reasons. With that providers would probably block bunq cards completely because they can't be sure if the country is correct, or they would ask for an other proof.

My Maestro is from 03/2017 as bunq just started in Germany and Austria. The cards were then all issued with Dutch code.
My virtual ApplePay with Spanish code was ordered a few minutes after BU # 7. 03/2018
Everything with legal way. That's why I thought and asked if bunq shipped Maestro Cards with Dutch code at the beginning of 2017, maybe this can work now with online Mastercards.

At Apple Pay or Google Pay, I have no thoughts lost.

All I really have to do is do anything with Bunq. Also my Irish and German accounts on iTunes. I think I'm not alone.

Jeroen 🏳️‍🌈 Not at all, I said that the American companies do not realize what a force behind the EU is. Instead of an EU App Shop they make individual shops, so they lock out many people who are perhaps multilingual on the road.

That would be so, if in the USA 52 each federal country had its own shop and a Texan can not shop in California.

I just wanted to show this paradox.

Tamas 🇪🇺🇦🇹🇭🇺 That is not always because American companies want this or don't understand Europe. This is because rights and distribution are usually negotiated on a country basis. You don't get the same content in Canada or Mexico even if it's on the same continent as the USA.

What you are saying would be more comparable if you had a Bavarian Apple/Netflix shop and also a North Rhine-Westphalian Apple/Netflix shop. As far I know this is not the case at all.

No free passenger traffic?
No Schengen?
Everywhere border controls?
Everywhere pay customs?

I would already consider the EU comparable to the US in economic sense.

Tamas 🇪🇺🇦🇹🇭🇺 Actually Canada, USA and Mexico have been in a trade agreement for a very long time. It's (was?) called NAFTA and Trump has said he wanted to change this deal numerous times.

But the EU is quite different from the USA. Like for example tax rules are far more diverse in the EU than in the USA between states. I don't pay taxes to the EU at all, I pay to my country. In the USA there's the IRS which you need to pay taxes to from income and so on.

The same goes for rights management. Those are not made on a European Union level but on a country level. I don't think this will ever go away under the current rules unless the EU actually becomes one giant country. The Berne Convention speaks about countries and not things like trade agreements, "unions" and so on.

For things like tv/movie rights, and for financial services, the EU/EEA is still not truly one market. That is why we have e.g. Apple Pay in some countries but not others, and why iTunes Stores etc are still partitioned by country. So no, I don’t think bunq can just happily give out cards with whatever country the user chooses, there is a reason the card country code is linked to residence of that country.

Jonathan I am not so sure that bunq is not allowed to do that.
As I already wrote, in the beginning the Maestro cards were all Dutch code (at the beginning of 2017), KBC Ireland issues cards with Irish coding. Fidor, DKB with German, boon with French, even if you do not live in the respective countries, but it is important that you are an EU citizen.
