Hello bunq 🌈 and bunqers! 👋
In the Netherlands 🇳🇱 you often need a Maestro, but this isn't the case for all bunq countries!
Here in Austria 🇦🇹 for example a big bank called "Erste Bank und Sparkasse" is soon switching to Debit Mastercards, as they are almost everywhere working here.
So I started to think about ditching my bunq Maestro, but there is one problem: There is no IBAN on the bunq Mastercards.
Why do I need the IBAN on the Debit Mastercard?
Well, for the same reasons you have it on the bunq Maestro. Sometimes a merchant asks you for your card to check if an account is yours, by checking your name + IBAN combination on your card and although this isn't a 100% bullet-proof check, merchants still do it and I would more like to have the IBAN on my card instead of trying to convince all the merchants in Europe that it's not a good check.
Or you don't have your phone with you and you want to give someone your IBAN, for whatever reason, so you can just pull out your card and give it to him.
Or simple: We have it on the bunq Maestro cards, so why not also on the bunq Mastercards for bunqers who don't need any Maestro?
But we have 25 accounts at bunq!
Yes, we have, but when you get a direct debit on IBAN A you don't actually need to pay it from IBAN A, you can select any account you want to pay from.
And again: It's on the bunq Maestro cards as well, so if it wouldn't be needed by some people we wouldn't have it there either!
But we have 3 cards, you can just order one Maestro for that!
True, but as I said at the beginning there are bunq countries where you just don't need any Maestro card anymore, and sooner or later you wont need it in the Netherlands, too. And it would allow me to use the 3. card for something else, so more "freedom"!
But you can put the IBAN in your card description!
Also true, but then your card would have the name of your IBAN.. not so nice looking in the app. And you would lose the room for any other descriptions 😞
But I just don't want an IBAN on my bunq Mastercard!
Well, why not have this as an additional option? By default it could say "no IBAN" and you can tap on it to select an IBAN to print on if you want it. So if you don't need it - don't use it.
Is there even enough room for it?
Well, I think there is enough room for it. If you would move the block with the card number + valid date + CVC + cardholder a bit, there would be enough room for it on top of it, I think.

I would really love to see this, as Debit Mastercard is becoming more and more the standard for Debitcards in some bunq countries and it would help me and others to ditch the Maestro completely.
And: Basically every bank is printing the IBAN on their Debit Cards, bunq also does this with the Maestro cards so there must be people needing this.
