I usually rent at rental cars.com and they say that they only accept embossed cards

Uit mijn ervaring kan ik zeggen dat ook deze 'credit' kaart bij een autoverhuurbedrijf niet geaccepteerd wordt. Ik heb de debit card van Viabuy in Amerika en Europa gebruikt maar geen enkele verhuurder accepteert de kaart ondanks dat de Viabuy kaart een kopie is van een Mastercard creditcard. Ook niet als er genoeg op je rekening staat. Dus graag uitleg van Bunq waar dan het verschil in zit.

@Rinze-Golden-Unicorn#93678 Viabuy is recognised as a ‘prepaid’ MasterCard whereas Bunq is recognised as a ‘normal’ credit card. That’s my understanding.

@Mark-Blue-Shark-3137357496#93680 Het heeft niets met erkennen te maken of dat er 'credit' of 'debit' opstaat daar hebben Hertz etc. geen boodschap aan. Zoals het mij is uitgelegd heeft het te maken met het feit dat een creditcard firma garant staat voor de borg en andere kosten bij eventuele problemen. Een koppeling naar een bankrekening brengt voor een verhuurder teveel risico mee, vandaar dat ze de kaart weigeren.

Diese Karte hat für mich keinen Mehrwert denn ich besitze eine Mastercard von Curve und die kostet keine 3 Euro im Monat

@Rinze-Golden-Unicorn#93682 It’s actually just a pre-authorisation or temporary ‘block’ on the funds. What’s not clear to me is how this element works with the new Bunq Travel Card!? Is the money kept in escrow or frozen from our accounts or paid to merchant!? Perhaps Bunq can clarify...

@Mark-Blue-Shark-3137357496#93685 From the Terms and Conditions I understand that the money is put aside until the end of the month (or billing period basically). When you generate account statements you will see that the amount is not deducted yet from your account, but the "amount available" will be lower than that total amount. From this I understand that the money is temporarily held by bunq, and then at the end of the cycle processed. I'm not entirely sure about the correctness but this is what I make of the T&C. 🙂

@Steffen-Blue-Dolphin#93489 Yeah, most European airlines accept debit cards these days, but American airlines often require credit cards. I was on a lengthy Air Canada Rouge flight recently and my poor seat neighbour couldn't get anything to eat as she had only a debit card & cash, but the only accepted form of payment were credit cards.

So depending on where you travel/pay by card you might not need the new travel card. I for one welcome a product that is more widely accepted in regions outside of Europe.

A shame that Bunq doesn't provide a timeline for this product to become available though.
