As a new user, you can instantly start using bunq upon downloading the app, initially accessing an e-money or 'bunq Demo' account. However, to fully unlock all of bunq's features, you should complete the verification process. You can find more information about the verification process here.

How does it work?
To start your e-money account, download the app and agree to the Terms & Conditions. Enter your name and birth date to start. To order a Credit Card or Debit Card (Matercard), upgrade to a full bank account and provide your delivery address 💳
What can I do with my e-money account?
- Total transaction limit of €150 during the whole e-money period of your account (until you verify your account)
- Not included international payments
- Not included physical bunq cards
- Not included Virtual Cards
- Not included Joint Accounts
- Not included opening of additional business accounts
- Not included iDEAL top up
Keep in mind that the e-money accounts aren’t covered by the Deposit Guarantee Scheme
How do I manually upgrade to a full bank account?
You’ll automatically be prompted to upgrade after reaching the limits of your e-money account but you can also switch manually to a full bank account:
- Tap on the Profile tab
- Select Personal Information
- You can then upgrade your account (make sure to keep your ID at hand!) by tapping on Make sure you're secured

Who can open an e-money account?
You can open an e-money account if you live in the following countries: Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Ireland, Spain, Sweden, Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, Austria, Czech Republic, Finland, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Malta, The Netherlands
My child has opened an account without my knowledge - what should I do?
Your child has opened an e-money account, which can be created without identity verification under European regulations. These accounts have limited functionalities to prevent misuse. This type of accounts can be opened without parental approval. If you wish to upgrade your child's plan to a full bank account, your permission will be required.
