  • Always display description field

I like the clean and minimal screens of Bunq payment screens.

However, I run into a problem when making new payments:
- sometimes I can't find the description field because I look for an input field, expecting it a next or previous screen instead of under 'more options', increasing the thinking energy it takes to make a payment
- it now takes two taps to enter a description, so it feels slow and less efficient

Not sure about any future plans to put stuff on this screen, but the description when making payments is definitely a PRIMARY feature and not something to hide under 'more options'

I think the design of current input fields is actually very nice and clean and is very minimal to not distract from the main call to action buttons.

I propose to keep the description field always visible as it's nice and light and makes for easier writing a description. Even scheduling doesn't hurt as it's also nice and white. The design of this screen after expansion of the buttons is really nicely done.

Can this be changed in a next release? What would be a reason to hide these fields at first glance?

Totally agree! Receiver, amount and description are primary when making a payment..

And if you pay to your own account, please show your account icon and description and not your profile picture and name.

Now it's not possible to see if you selected the right account, only with an extra tap on your profile picture.

@Patrick-Magenta-Wolf#26852 I agree. When trying to send, say, my rent, I need to enter a (specific) description to reference my address.

With the current UI, I was unsure if the description (and optional attachment) were only for my reference or for the payee.

@Maarten-Cyan-Dolphin#26866 It does show both the account icon and description when paying to your own account. (See my screenshots)

          • Icon is ‘square’ for your own bank accounts.
          • Icon is a circle when sending to other people/accounts.

I also see this in the list view from where you select an account.

What screen are you referring to?

@Patrick-Magenta-Wolf#26877 I think the iOS and Android is different. In Android i see only the round profile picture and description on the right side. After tapping on it i see the correct iban and picture but the account description.

            Very confusing!

I like to only display the square ican and correct description or a combination of the round and square you sometimes see in the app.

              Hi Patrick!👋

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts💭. I gotta agree with you that I would be better to always show the "Show more options" ad the New Payment screen. I know bunq is trying to keep the app as simply and clean as possible, but in this case it cant hurt to always show the description field for instance.

So, you got a High Five from me! 🙌

Happy bunqing and keep on sharing!

Definitely something that I'm missing too

@Michiel-Blue-Hummingbird#26952 Je kunt ook transacties sturen zonder omschrijving, dus "verplicht" maken lijkt me geen goed idee, de zichtbaarheid kan ik me persoonlijk wel in vinden. Dat veld gebruik ik ook vrij veel. 🙂

You have my high-five! Please always show the Description field

I can't remember recent transactions without any description. Schedule option is fine to hide imo.

                          5 days later

Just transferred a large amount to pay an invoice and accidentally missed the description field because it was hidden. Now I have to contact the other party. It’s a lot of hassle for me to get my payment successfully administered. Hopefully they will find it and not automatically return it, or worse, lose my transaction because of it.

Please always show the description field to prevent these dangerous mistakes.

Like has been said before, when transferring money to other parties you hardly ever send it without a description.

Not only that, but here in the Netherlands we still have to fill in the 'acceptgiro number' This number has a built-in sanity check if you made a typo. Unfortunately this sanity check is not made when you enter it into a description field.
So if you mistype a number to e.g. a company or worse, the Belastingdienst, you have NOT paid and you can be fined.
Please include an 'acceptgiro' field until all companies, utilities etc. update to a more modern system.

                              Hey fellow bunqrs 👋
lets push this topic back to the top, so that we can collect more high-fives on this wish! 👍

                                Yes, +1

I almost made the same mistake twice on recent business transfers. For private transfers I can understand that often it’s not needed and it is hidden by default. But it seems to be the wrong choice when it’s hidden by default on business transfers that 100% of the time need a description to an invoice/reference.

I do not understand who made the decision to hide the description field and why. For businesses this is obligatory if you want to be able to backtrack invoices, especially in the Netherlands. How could this even happen?

Yes, please always show the description field. No reason to hide it. And the screen has plenty of space for it too.

In my opinion the entite process of a simple bank transfer has gotten very complicated since the latest update.

I have multiple accounts. Now when starting a new transfer I have to choose the amount first, then recipient, which I can choose from 3 menu items and below it different categories. Then I can transfer. But never am I asked which account the money needs to come from. I have to double check this every time and actively change it. Then with not showing the description, I have already made several mistakes. Bunq started out for me as an awesome new bank alternative which was quick and easy in every way and I’m happy to pay for. But I’m becoming less and less happy about all these unnecessary extra features.

Patty, if you select the account first and click on the pay button of that account, you can be sure you pay from that account.
