  • Reached the Virtual Cards limit

While talking with bunq support as there is an obvious issue and they claim I cannot create anymore cards because I reached the 20 cards limit I uploaded some prrof with transactions showing some cards that were used prior to 1 year which means they are older and my limit should refresh. Then he told me that bunq no longer offers virtual cards and I will no longer be able to use them. Really?? I am shocked. I hope he is joking or simply misinformed I wouldn't want to assume that he is lying to me.

    @Mikis-Turquoise-Hummingbird#193165 Hi šŸ‘‹šŸ¼ Mikis,

Strange story šŸ¤”.... I’m prettyyyy sure the Online Card feature still exists! In fact, I still use and can create them.

My assessment is that support gave you the wrong answer or maybe there was some kind of miscommunication!

Let me try to figure it out and come back to you.

In fact today another support employee told me the same that cards will stop working soon and they will update it on together as well. Make a question please from your side let's see what they will tell you

@Mikis-Turquoise-Hummingbird#193181 Well, until now we had different types of virtual cards (the original virtual cards for Tap&Pay usage, as well as the original "Online Cards", that shared their BINs with the Mastercard Debits but had all kind of specialties in behavior) that behaved slightly differently. Then with V3 the whole thing changed so that when you create a new online card you really get a new Travel Card instead, but without getting sent a physical card immediately.

Might be time for some streamlining there, and maybe nomenclature will also change to make this clearer. Pretty sure the support is not trying to lie to you, but just trying to explain technical changes that aren't yet completely implemented.

@Jakob-Y#193184 This is what they told me "We no longer offer online cards as a feature, actually. So even if your online cards were created over a year ago, you will not be able to create new ones, because we no longer support this feature, and the limit will no longer reset."

And another reply was "Hello Mikis,šŸ‘‹

What Martin have told you is correct, we just haven't updated our together topic yet.

I will go ahead and report it to the moderators.

            Have a great day!"

This would be another sad day in bunq history, killing another great feature :(

Takes me back to the time you could actually whitelist and blacklist merchants to prevent them from "taking your money". This was a real killer feature.

Let's hope this won't be the case :)

Guys, let’s not jump to conclusions. I have a pending question about this. I can’t imagine in any way that this feature will be discontinued. Soon as I know, you guys know.

Snel ff wat kaarten aangemaakt! šŸ˜ŠšŸ‘

If this is true, that would suck. I always thought that it was a bit hidden in V3, but it appears that they will probably kill the feature.

                    My oh my bunq...

@JohnDo#193283 Not so much jumping to conclusions when multiple support employees repeat it haha. Having said that, let's pray they're confused about some memo that says DEBIT Online Cards are being discontinued and won't renew. And they mistook it that the CREDIT Online Cards (the new variety since v3) will be discontinued as well. I hope that isn't wishful thinking, but it's the only explanation I can think of. If the Online and/or NFC cards disappear, it would be disastrous.

@LH-Black-Wolf#193308 Hmm multiple support guides? Hmm, doesn’t sound good.

I have even created two new ones today just to test it. Still worked, at least at my end.

And often mods are informed upfront about changes, but about this we haven’t heard anything... yet ;)

I agree, maybe it’s about Debit Online Cards, because indeed new ones are Credit.

                        Let’s wait and see! :)

I just tried and it’s indeed impossible to create new Online Cards.

@LH-Black-Wolf#193320 Ich konnte gerade eine erstellen und auch andere schrieben, dass es heute noch bei ihnen ging. Komisch oder?

@Heiko-Hartwig#193322 I can’t. Immediately errors out just like OP. But that’s not overly interesting to me. I have all the cards I want and need at the moment, both Online as Virtual NFC. I’m far more interested in hearing whether or not Online/Virtual Cards are going to be discontinued or not...

@LH-Black-Wolf#193323 Verstanden. Ich habe bisher auch nur 6 Stück. Ja, ob und warum würde mich auch interessieren - immerhin ein interessantes Feature.

@LH-Black-Wolf#193320 Hi, I tried doing so, and indeed I couldn't order an online card - it was telling me "invalid characters" even before requesting the name.
I realized it was taking the name of the Account, which had the "grocery cart" icon in it. So I went ahead and deleted that icon from the account, and I was then successful to make a new online card associated with that account, and I could also go back and change the account icon back to its original.
I am not sure if this was the problem (or similar) you were facing, so hope it helps.

Note: I got an online credit card this time, and it seems there is no way or an option to chose between credit or debit. My previous other online cards, all of them, are debit cards.

@Sayon#193325 No here it just says the limit has been reached even if I freeze an Online Card first :P However, for me what MIGHT be happening is that bunq counts the virtual NFC cards as Online Cards (they even show up as such in the app, though not in the API). But then @JohnDo#193312 should have the same problem as I’ve seen him mentioning here that he has multiple of those cards as well just like me. But it does work for him, so he says. So that’s probably not the problem either.

What is weird is that V2 said there were no Online cards at all anymore. I think something got messed up in the database.

I hope/think that bunq is fasing out the old online card in favor of all MC credit cards. With the difference being that you can create as many MC credit cards as you want and later request a physical version of that card. So all card are online only until you request the physical counterpart

                                        Vielleicht mal als mƶgliche ErklƤrung, weshalb keine neuen virtuellen Karten mehr beliebig erstellt werden kƶnnen;
