  • [FIXED] Android: Activation of Tap&Pay not possible, wrong error message

This really is a bummer just changed to a Fairphone 3 (you know the trees...) and decided to go googless with /e/ and to my suprise no tap&pay anymore tried this quite a few times and had to find out in this thread I need to go to Google again. Thought by now an internet bank should know by now that privacy is not a common thing to expect in the realms of the Google household.

You mentioned some other options should exist but without any information what that could be, I'm happy without all the Google crap on my phone everything runs way faster and battery life more than doubled.

Hope you can give all of us some indeepth information what alternatives beside gOOGLE are available, so I don't need to look for alternatives, besides this I'm a very happy customer, but knowing me this will become more irritating when time goes by!

Cherio,
Lourens

    Hello bunqers 👋

    Please note we have also adjusted the error message so it does not cause any confusion when trying to enable the Tap&Pay feature.

    For the Android users whose devices don't support Google apps, please check what other NFC options are offered for your phone. In case we have more information about this we'll let you know, of course!

    For now I wish you a nice weekend ahead ☀️

      I too have just reinstalled due to a different bug (missing payments in overview, very concerning) and am now running into this issue of not being able to reactivate Tap&Pay.

      I would prefer not to use Google Pay, but it seems that point is moot as I can't activate Google Pay either!

      Add to this the failure to send replacement cards and bunq is looking like it's having a LOT of issues. It's been downhill since v3.

        I liked tap&pay a LOT. Used it many times every day. Sorry to say this is a reason for me to start looking for another online bank....

          My guess is this is because Google actually pays you to get consumer spending information, not because it is better then tap&pay

            i see this topic being marked as [FIXED] but this is not fixed at all.
            i am in the same situation as some others on this topic. using an android phone without google apps and was happy that tap & pay worked flawless for more than a year. now, after switching phones, i can not enable tap and pay any more.

            this is super annoying and now i am very much stranded. i've been using my phone to pay almost anything through the past two years and don't carry cards around anymore.

            and being forced to use gpay is very sad. choosing bunq for its openness and ease of use, and happily paying for that. but telling me to use gpay from now on is very disappointing.

            you mentioned a workaround. how would one go about that workaround? how can we again enable tap & pay functionality without giving all that data to google?

              @Patrick-Blue-Butterfly-239392054#220310 I think it's fixed in the sense that bunq is not currently planning to support Tap&Pay anymore. While it's true that Nikoleta mentioned that Android users without access to Google apps should check for other NFC options, I don't think they're referring to any specific tested workaround. As far as I know, there's currently no other option except Google Pay and Apple Pay for mobile payment with bunq cards.

                @Patrick-Blue-Butterfly-239392054#220310 Hi Patrick 👋

                What we mean by "fixed" is the error message that popped up. Before it was confusing and not very clear, we fixed that so it refers to the alternatives of the Tap&Pay feature. Currently, those are Apple Pay and Google Pay, indeed. If we start planning on something else, we'll let you know for sure.

                Your understanding would be appreciated 🙏

                  I'm, very disappointed with this decision. I don't want Google to have access to my payment data. I'm sure maintaining tap&pay is complicated and using Google Pay might be easier for you guys, but I'm trying to use less Google instead of more.

                    As others already mentioned, loosing Tap&Pay when switching devices is very troubling :(

                      Really disappointed in the move made by Bunq by disabling this feature. Just switched phones, and I thought it was something wrong with my phone.
                      But now I found this Forum thread which makes me quite sad, I do like Bunq, although the latest iterations of the app where not really a improvement in my humble opinion.

                      Something I liked from the Tap & Pay feature in the app is that is very convenient to change different accounts very quickly without hassle. I don't like the way you have to do it in Google Pay that's much more troublesome.

                      and @Nikoleta did mention that there are possibly alternative NFC apps, but did not point to one other than Google Pay, what are they if there are any?

                        @Mark-Maroon-Zebra-2151785081#221636 Hi there 👋

                        If you want to remove any Tap&Pay cards from your overview you can block them, following the steps in here. For the time being you can only use Google Pay with bunq if you reside in Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, or the UK. We're working on adding more countries to this list and will update you once it's done 👍

                        As for the rest and if you have more questions on the matter, please contact us trough the support chat: Profile > MENU > Get private support. Both your understanding and cooperation would be much appreciated 🙏

                          @Priyantha-Golden-Lion#221990 Hello 👋

                          I am sorry to hear you're disappointed with our decision. Please note that we keep striving towards constant improvement of the app and Tap & Pay does not fit in this picture. If you wish, you can find out more about Google Pay and how to enable it here.

                          Currently, the only alternative NFC app is Apple Pay, I am afraid. If we have more information on the matter we'll let you know!

                          For now I wish you a nice rest of the day 🌈

                            @Nikoleta#218158 Hey Nikoleta,
                            do you have any news for Google Pay in Austria by now? Google Pay started in Austria in November 2020 - the same date as in Netherlands and Portugal. This is more than a half year ago and bunq ist still not allowing Google Pay in Austria. I am wondering why this is the case. Any other fintech, like N26 and Revolut, is supporting Google Pay in Austria 🤔

                              @der13teFreitag#222347 Hi there 👋

                              We're working on implementing this, I'll check with the Product team for an update and let you know as soon as I have more info! Your patience on the matter is much appreciated 🙏

                                I'm using a newly rooted android phone and have no access to Google Pay. Please enable tap to pay, even if at our own risk.

                                This is not the service I signed up for 2 years ago.
