Have you ever had issues paying with a Mastercard in a Dutch store? Mastercards, Visa & American Express cards are rejected in some shops across Europe, including the Netherlands.
Many stores, Albert Heijn for example, consider Mastercards (bunq Credit cards) as credit cards, so they’re not accepted for card payments. Some countries prefer one type of card over another and have set up their banking systems and payment operations as such. In most countries Mastercard is widely used and accepted, but Maestro is a better choice for the Netherlands.

Maestro is going out of production in 2023, what does that mean?
The Dutch Payments Association and Mastercard announced that Maestro cards will be stopped from production in the upcoming years. Therefore, they expect most stores in the Netherlands to accept Mastercard Debit cards by the end of 2022.
This means that your Credit card should be accepted in every Dutch store really soon. Woohoo! 🎉
