  • Foreign IBAN for joint account

Hi all,
my wife and I are using bunq (we both set up our accounts from Germany) and we would like to open a joint account with a Dutch IBAN. We are struggling to figure out how to do so. Any tips / ideas are very welcome!!
Thanks
Linus

      Hi Jakob,
      thanks for your swift reply!
We will be moving to the Netherlands in a few weeks - would this change the situation - clearly as we will then have most of our joint expenses in the Netherlands it would be very important for us to have a Dutch joint account. Any other thoughts on how you would recommend to deal with the situation also welcome :-)
      Thanks again
      Linus

@New-Ivory-Octopus-818016890#234149 I don't think bunq "supports" your situation at the moment. Because you both signed up with a German address, your accounts default branch is the German bunq branch, which means Joint accounts will always have DE IBANs. Of course, there shouldn't be any issues using your DE IBANs while living in The Netherlands (I still use my old NL IBANs while living in Germany without any issues).

The real bigger issue you will probably face is not being able to use iDEAL and iDIN. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a nice solution here. I would definitely recommend bringing it up with bunq also through Private Support and ask them if they have any options for you after you both have moved to The Netherlands in terms of NL IBANs and/or iDEAL/iDIN support, but afaik there's no process to transfer users from the German branch back to the Dutch branch.

is this still the case? I have the same issue, would like to open an NL joint account but it's always DE. I can open a personal NL account just fine

@inkyspoon#279290 You indeed can't change the IBAN of joint accounts, this is still the case.

Nice to hear this is now possible through support :)

I have a similar issue. My wife and I both opened a personal account with Bunq, while currently living in the Netherlands. However we wanted to create a joint account to pay our bills in Portugal, however the Dutch IBAN doesn’t seem to be accepted for direct debits over there not because of being foreign, but because it contains letters (BUNQ). As far as I’ve been reading, joint accounts do not support local IBANs. Any turnaround?

@Ninocos#281710 Unfortunately, since bunq doesn't support Portugese IBANs, I don't think there's a workaround. Companies all over Europe should accept all IBANs. Unfortunately, not all do so.
