• Major update: bunq cards

Awesome. Do i need to order new cards to get the offline pin feature?

What i dont like is, that you removed the limits completely. I agree that it needed some simplification but removing it almost completely? How can i now enable/disable the magnetic stripe on the card?

    Nice update! I love the offline pin as this will make my life a bit easier when traveling.

    I do like the simplified card limits, but I am concerned it is a bit oversimplified at the moment. I personally would like to still be able to limit dodgy payments and contactless payments to something far lower than my overall daily limit.

      @Krupps#37353 Awesome. Do i need to order new cards to get the offline pin feature?

      No you do not. 😁 Simply make one payment through an online terminal and your card should be updated.

        Well super great news (not). I am now in Bhutan and I have seen all ATM’s and none of them are accepting any of my bunq cards. This is disastrous!!

          I know I have been complaining about the variety of limits that it was too much. But i feel like it’s too simplistic now. I wanted to have like 5 easy switches 1. block card 2. online payments 3. atm withdrawals 4. nfc 5. abroad. Now you can’t do any of it can you? I’m glad bunq is listening and I’m sure you will keep listening and adjust the changes you made. Hope you’ll find a way to get this whole limit thing fixed in the future. Sometimes it’s not wrong to look at other banks and see how they handle it ... like N26 they do it pretty good i think.

            I want to invite my girlfriend. Because she is only a Slice user this is not possible :(

              I couldn't find the "apply to all cards" switch for card limits, but found out the switch is not readable in Dark Mode. Background color is dark and foreground text also dark.

                So, you’ve decided to remove all the features that make bunq great?!

                Whitelisting merchants GONE
                Disable magstripe GONE
                Disable dodgy payments GONE
                Contactless payment limits GONE

                Especially whitelisting, if now a website starts to charge me more than an order, they can just go ahead whilst before you could just remove that merchant from the whitelist.

                  Hi @Adri#37309, thanks for your response, as always, we value what our users have to say and have created some amazing things because of this!!

                  With today's update, magstripe is only enabled in the countries you have determined in your allowed countries list.

                    @Neihana#37374 Thx for your answers Nathan !
                    Obviously, dodgy and contactless payment can’t have the same limit as high as the card payment one... What kind of security did you develop for that ?

                      Hi,

                      It’s not completely clear to me what is meant by an ‘offline’ terminal.

                      Does this mean it’s now possible to pay on board airplanes and the German IC train for example? Those where the only places I missed my old Rabobank credit Mastercard (apart from car rental companies, but I figure this mastercard still won’t work there now).

                      What would be other examples of places I could stumble upon offline terminals?

                      Thanks.

                        @Adri#37379 no problem!

                        For contactless, you will be required to put in your PIN on any transaction, singular or cumulative, over €50. This is reset once you put in your PIN, confirming it's really you.

                        Payments that previously came under the Dodgy Payment limit, now fall under your new single limit, with the exception of magstripe payments which are based on your allowed countries.

                          @Neihana#37382 Ok thx !
                          Are Offline payments also working with contactless, or “traditional” payment only ?

                            @Adri#37383 - another good question! 😊

                            To make an offline payment, you must do so in the "traditional" sense. That is, insert your card into the terminal. This is so we can update the counters on the card, to ensure we can track the spend amount so the limit is not exceeded.

                              @Neihana#37382 The singular or cumulative contactless limit was 150 EUR in Germany... Is it now 50 EUR for everyone?

                                I just tried to pay at Five Guys in Paris. Both the maestro and MasterCard failed to pay and the payment was reversed immediately.

                                I think something is broken now 🙁

                                  Hey @Merbel#37381, it's in fact quite hard to say where you might run into offline terminals. On board airplanes for example are indeed usually offline. Therefore, if a debit card is accepted in an in flight terminal, then so will your bunq Mastercard Debit 💪

                                  In places where only a credit card is accepted, the bunq Mastercard Debit will still not work, as this is a debit card and the acceptance is at the discretion of the merchant.

                                    Hi @SimonM#37385 - Yes it's €50 for everyone. This does not mean you can only spend €50 using contactless, only that after €50, you will be asked to put in your PIN.

                                      @Diego-Indigo-Akita#37389 Yes, that's the one. It used to be available under the MasterCard settings. Now it's just accessible from the Events, which is ridiculous. What if I want an overview of my whitelisted merchants?
