Laith-Aquamarine-Leopard What would the advantage be over the current Maestro and Mastercard debit cards?
vampjon Visa got into some computer errors some time ago. Payments were affected worldwide by this issue.
The same thing could happen to Mastercard.
A card from another issuer could act as a fallback, you could say.
@Ali himself replied to this post some time ago - https://together.bunq.com/d/1499-choice-beteren-visa-and-mastercard
Maybe that will answer your question
Still hope bunq will eventually offer visa. I’ve found Visa cards to work practically everywhere, whereas at AH I can’t use my MasterCard and in the UK I often can’t use my maestro. I’d love a visa purely so I can have 1 card for everything.
R Don't think AH will accept Visa either 😅
I‘d also prefer having a fallback system, if one or the other shouldn’t work... especially since I changed completely to bunq...
vampjon They do accept v-pay, not entirely sure about visa, sorry for confusing the 2.
R In the Netherlands only some very old POS-machines don’t accept V-Pay.
But as rule of thumb you can say if a the store accepts MasterCard it also accepts Visa and if it accepts Maestro it also accepts V-Pay.
In some countries ... including Cuba, you can not use the MasterCard, but you can use the Visa. Has often helped me out of the fire there. Especially because maestro did not work either. I do not know if it still is.
Would idd be great if bunq also offer Visa cards (so the customer can choose), but for now for the people who want a Visa card you can: https://www.icscards.nl/ics-producten or https : //prepaid.worldcard.nl/ choose.
For those looking for a Visa card there is also https://www.icard.com/ , and for zero € uro
BigBoss Just a note: iCard is not free, you pay when you put money on the account.
Laith-Aquamarine-Leopard because VISA is evil. j/k don't know, probably because bunq gets a better rate from Mastercard instead of VISA? I don't know.
Jos-Golden Unicorn Refunds by bank transfer are free, only refills by cards are paid.
In any case, in general it's advised to have at least two completely independent cards when traveling (if possible I'd get a credit card, because some places don't accept debit cards). And if you find yourself in a place where only Visa or Mastercard are accepted you will be covered.
I am in Nicaragua ANZ i can’t withdraw anywhere. Bunq, transferwise and n26 give me The same problem and they are all mastercard. With a visa credit card all good
Francesco-Cyan-Jaguar Is your card enabled in Nicaragua? Most ATMs accept both
MB-Obari Card is enabled in Nicaragua. I have seen atms with mastercard logo on them but cards just don’t work. I tried with all the neobanks card I have with no luck and they are all mastercard. Bunq support told me is a problem of the machines. Transferwise said they are investigating with local banks. This sucks, and this is why these banks need to provide a visa too. Cards work for payments though...at least that
Francesco-Kecco It's just how it is. The fintechs all cooperate with Mastercard. If you need a fallback, you do not just need another credit card, you also need another bank.
Heiko-Hartwig That's the way it is. Visa only introduced its debit when it was already too late.
