  • Idea: Card security features

As I travel the world a lot for work I think it would be awesome to have control over some card security functions such as temporarily disabling swipe transactions (very useful in the USA, as they still swipe a lot), disabling ATM withdrawals (general security) or even disabling contactless payments. This works great with the competitor Revolut's cards for instance. On top I'm also hoping bunq will restore the functionality of setting Allowed Countries per card (https://together.bunq.com/d/5650-idea-set-allowed-countries-on-per-card-basis).
All of this would improve security a lot, and could even save bunq a lot of money on card fraud cases.

Give this post a high five if you like the idea :)

Oh yes I forgot about mentioning the disposable card feature! That would make total sense to add as well!

@yllwfsh#46841 We did have a lot of those functions already. Then they were removed without warning.
I ask myself what happens if you are abroad and a function that you rely on suddenly gets removed?

@PeterPan-iik#46850 I seem to read that a lot recently. It seems that all the amazing and powerful functions are removed without warning. That makes me a bit sad to be honest. I get that some of these features may be too difficult to grasp for some people. Maybe bunq should have an ‘expert mode’ that includes all these features and a simpler mode for people that don’t need them...

@PeterPan-iik#46850 They just assumed that because few people used it it should not matter

They only thing you can do now is disabling and enabling your card entirely or setting the limit very low and setting it "right" when you need it. But both are a nuisance in practice.

@JeroenE#46864 I agree. That’s not a solution and can create even more confusion in my opinion than a few ‘advanced features’ if they’re well integrated in the app.

They had I indeed these options back a while. They were removed because nobody seemed to use them, according to bunq. It actually shouldn’t matter if people use them in my opinion. What really matters is that these options do exist and ready to be used if needed.

Revolt sounds like a nice and safer alternative to bunq actually. I like the idea of giving control to the user instead of limiting security to make things "easier" for the user.

@Dennis#47767 it sounds like that, but it isn't the case. Yes you have the card security features, but Revolut has some serious issues, like card acceptance or support wait times.

@Roeshimi#47769 In all fairness to Revolut, I have used their MasterCard for over a year and my card was never refused anywhere around the world. Their security features work like a charm as well. That said, yes you’re correct in the sense that support is basically non-existent, where with bunq you can generally get a proper answer in less that 10 minutes. Also the Revolut 400EUR/month atm limit is a little restrictive for me. And no Apple pay!

Long story short I prefer bunq and with added features it can get even more amazing!

                      4 days later

Yes pleaseeeee this would beee sooooo handy!

This is something I really miss. The current security options are just not enough for a fintech bank like bunq. I like the advanced features that Revolut and N26 offer.

Can anyone from the bunq team say something about this? Can it be put back on the wish list? Clearly there’s people that miss these features.

@yllwfsh#49356 bunq monitors all topics on Together but in principle never replies about a wishes status. 😉 bunq likes to surprise the users with (new) features when they arrive. As for this wish, it's already on the wishlist, so make sure that this topic gets enough votes so it stays on bunqs radar. 🙌 😁

                              @Sander#49585 Thx! Understood 😉
