Hey bunqers 🌈
On Thursday, January 2, 2025, we experienced an unusually high surge in connections (4x the usual activity) which caused intermittently slower response times in the bunq app and bunq API. We subsequently identified the problem: an infrastructure issue at our partner AWS.
Rest assured, we’ve fixed it! We’re working with our partner to prevent similar issues in the future.
How do I know if I was affected?
Starting at 13:58 CET, you may have encountered:
- Either slowness or errors when you tried to log in.
- Delays in processing instant payments.
- Issues with top-ups, where payments seemed successful but were immediately reversed.
- Successful card payments with delayed notifications.
What should I do if I was affected?
- Login issues: you can now log in to the app as usual.
- Instant payment delays: depending on your sending bank, the funds will either be returned to your sending bank account, or, the payment will be retried and successfully processed to your bunq account within 1 business day.
- Top-up reversals: the money has been sent back to the sending bank and should show up there within 1 business day. Simply redo your top-up and the payment will be processed successfully.
- Card payments: these will show up correctly in your bunq app within 1 business day.
If you still experience issues, please don’t hesitate to contact our Support Center.
Thanks for your patience and understanding! 🙏
