  • Apple Pay Notifications from bunq app instead of Wallet

I’ve already seen a topic on this (https://together.bunq.com/d/3839-apple-pay-notifications-from-bunq-app), but it appears to have been locked and I cannot reply there, so I wanted to bump this issue back up into the conversation.

As already mentioned in the other thread, Wallet notifications have some downsides compared to bunq app notifications. Specifically:

  • the notification doesn’t confirm which account the transaction was from
  • I can’t tap on the notification to go directly to the transaction view where I can add notes or a quick picture of a receipt.

This last one is the main reason why I want bunq app notifications for Apple Pay transactions. Often in the supermarket or other shop where I make a purchase and have no need to keep the original receipt, I just want to take a quick snap of the receipt so I can see later what I spent money on and how much individual items cost etc. With bunq app notifications this is literally done in a few simple taps.
With an Apple Pay transaction I have to open my phone and manually open the bunq app, goto events, then tap on the transaction in question, before I can hit the button to add a picture to the transaction. Not a very nice experience.

I agree that I wouldn’t want to get double notifications, and that perhaps some people prefer wallet notifications for whatever reason. Perhaps the default should be as it is now (wallet notifications, and bunq app notifications for Apple Pay transactions disabled by default).

But please give us an option to enable push notifications from bunq for Apple Pay transactions. I can then disable wallet notifications if I want (the bunq app could even pop up a little notice just after flipping the switch on Apple Pay notifications to advise people to turn off notifications in the wallet app if they don’t want to get double notifications).

Thanks for the consideration 🙏🏻

Yes to be honest me personally I'd like to always get a notification for every transaction. Not everyone has the same setup after all. When I pay with another phone or with the watch, then there's no notification at all on the phone that I have installed bunq on. Just a simple setting screen for notifications would be great imo. Or just enable all of them haha, for me that would be enough.

I opened a topic on the same issue a few days ago and came to the same conclusion: https://together.bunq.com/d/8104-notifications

I’ve requested that a toggle is added in the Notifications window so you can toggle them on if you want them.

I also want them because Wallet only shows notifications for local device transactions, it for example won’t notify about payments you make on the Watch.

Yeah you guys both make good points. I hadn’t even considered the fact that making an Apple Pay payment on another device (Watch, iPad, Mac, other iPhone) would then result in no notification at all on my phone.

This is another drawback of not having an option to receive “native” bunq notifications for Apple Pay transactions.

Since you can disable notifications from the wallet, it should be possible to activate notifications for apple pay payments in the bunq app.
i think they just implemented a function like "if apple pay payment, send no push notification".

A solution would be to check if the user has turned off notifications for the wallet and if yes, send bunq notification. (i don't know if that is possible because of apples restrictions)

            Hi @Michael-Indigo-Badger-440710752#62562

This is now possible in todays update (at least on iOS) in version 13.3.0. You can find the settings under Profile > Security and settings > Notifications > Apple Pay payments.

@Tim#146983 Woohoo! It’s been a while coming, but I’m glad it finally here 🥳
              Thanks for the heads-up! 😊

Opgelost. Bedankt voor jullie tijd en moeite. 🙂

                          Edit: Fijn dat het werkt!

@Johan83#147371 Ah, ja dat helpt wel haha. Fijn dat het werkt!
