  • VPN is to prevent people on open WiFi networks from being able to look at your traffic. bunq already does this through different technologies such as SSL encryption and certificate validation. You should remember that VPN is just means to an end and bunq already covered that one for you.

    • I don't see why not. My NAS box is behind NAT, it provides several ssl-secured vhosts through port forwarding.

This seems like a security concern, does bunq provide data even when the certificate is absent or invalid?

      • I understand your concern but the alternative would be to give someone you understandably do not trust full access to your bank account to realize this connection..

        • Hey Jeffrey,

I have a tiny description written down. Send me an email at jorijn@jorijn.com so I can forward it to you.

I’ll also try and put up some docs soon.

          • Goede response, duidelijk. Ik stoor me niet aan trackers en begrijp zeer goed de noodzaak voor het draaien van het bedrijf.

            • I'm no huge fan of the feature as well. I like bunq for it's innovational philosophy but badges seem out of place. I am also disappointed you can't disable the feature as a whole.

              • If a large portion of a business' target group is on a social network, it only makes sense to use that social network for getting new customers. We want bunq to grow yet disallow certain key tools that make this possible. We should believe - if invested in bunq's philosophy - that the company has the best interest at heart for it's customers.

                • Well, it turns out YNAB released their API. For the past few days, I've been working on a realtime connection between my bunq accounts and my YNAB budgets. It's pretty functional right now although still work in progress. There is little to none documentation and no tests, yet. If you'd like, star the repositories and keep an eye on them for updated documentation and howto's.

The first repository contains a Symfony Bundle for easy bunq interaction: https://github.com/Jorijn/symfony-bunq-bundle

When used with the second Bundle, you're able to subscribe to MUTATION events and post them to YNAB's API. https://github.com/Jorijn/ynab-bunq-connector-bundle

                  • Use case: Let's say my landlord wants me to deliver him proof of payments of all water-related bills, paid in the last 12 months. I would then go into the bunq app, search for "[water company]" and be presented with a list of transactions that prove I paid them.

I'd rather not screenshot this screen, it looks unprofessional, could pose privacy issues and possibly not hold all transactions due to device height. Instead it would be helpful to extend the now already existing export feature to only contain these filtered transactions.

The end result would be a shareable PDF or CSV file I can now send him/her containing only the transactions that match my search criteria.

                    • Makes sense, if the card gets lost they can call you directly to return it instead of having the bank inbetween has communication-hub.
