  • @thijsoost#270035 Ah interesting, I completely missed that. As long as AH will start to accept non maestro cards as well, I'm all for it.
In the UK, all cards (perhaps existing amex) are pretty much accepted everywhere.
Here in the Netherlands it's a pain and many shops now only accept maestro, like the AH. So can't wait for that to change

    • @thijsoost#270020 Ah thanks, that's a pity. Perhaps a suggestion for the future, as part of becoming even greener? Saves production and shipping of a card...

      • Is it possible to order the debit card as a Digi card as well, and therefore for free?
I have 1 Digi card credit card, and also want a maestro debit card in Digi card format, as I don't want to pay the 1x 10 euros as i don't need a physical cards...

          To add
In 2018, online bank Bunq made a loss of over ten million euros. The source mentions that the company founder invested some of his own money to compensate for the losses. This does not mean the Fintech is doing badly, though, as the company's income from deposits made by their clients increased to approximately 211 million euros in 2018.

So they are definitely making money of our accounts...

          • @Tim#156316
I was aware that initially Bunq didn't invest, but 2 yeas later, and Bunq is now investing our money, to make money (they don't just take their cost, but obviously some profit too)
A few years ago, Bunq advertised with free accounts, and now Bunq has increased the fees of my free account to €8/m

So just because Bunq is promising something at one stage, doesn't mean Bunq is keeping its promise. And as such, Bunq is slowly moving towards different business models (for whatever legitimate reasons), and becoming less different to other banks.

What is there to say, that Bunq won't start with mortgages in 2 years? Even if they promise that today, we now know that they won't keep their promise forever (for whatever legitimate reasons)

Would be interesting to see Bunq's financial statement, and see how much money a consumer would need to have in his account, before Bunq will make a profit on a consumer.

            • I'm surprised hardly anyone is making the point that we put our hard earned money on Bunq, and with that money Bunq can either invest, or at least have collateral to invest, or whatever business model is behind using our money to make money for Bunq, And that's all fine, but I should not have to pay for this privilege...

Banking services in the UK (where I used to live) are generally free, free accounts, free credit/debit cards, etc. Again, banks make money with the deposits we collectively do.

It's fine to charge a premium for special services, but if you just need a basic account, no cards (or perhaps 1 card), then why pay so much money, when up to 1/Apr it was free. Sorry, that's not making me happy.

At least look at Tesla/super charges, only NEW users will have to accept new pricing structure, while existing users can still continue with old pricing structure. That's how you keep existing customers happy, while being open towards new customers.

I hope by all these comments, Bunq will reconsider, but otherwise indeed we have a few months to look for alternatives and transfer out. I realize Bunq is hoping that many of us are too lazy, and simply accept paying the new fees, but hopefully those of us who are unsatisfied, will follow true with their promises, if Bunq is not reconsidering...

(and now let's hope my message doesn't get deleted again, since Bunq is playing games here as welll)

              • I missed confirming an increased direct debit and now it is cancelled after 5 days. How can I still execute that particular payment?

                • Coming from the UK where banking is free and where you get cashback on credit cards, it was a shock to learn that in Holland you have to pay for the privilege for banks to play with your money...

I found Bunq as a service that will let me get what I need, without being charged, and allowing for ideal payments, something my English and German bank don't support.

Now I'm only missing a free debit card, but here my German and British bank help me out.

Who needs cash if you can do everything online and mobile!
