Jeroen 🏳️‍🌈 It’s cheaper than 2 premium accounts.
I personally don’t want to join a pack with strangers. We are using bunq as our main bank. So for us the new account is a good addition. When the kids grow older we can change to a pack. This way it stays all in the family.
But I agree that having 4 cards or the possibility to buy a fourth one would be nice.

Andy I was not 100% comfortable with a Pack and strangers either but so far it was not a problem. The only thing that recently was a bummer was the Mass Interest feature where bunq decided that Pack users are now second grade Premium customers.
I do agree there's a small risk that somebody won't pay, but even if they don't then 15 euro is still cheaper than 16. And seeing the crowds in the Pack sharing topic I don't think I will have a problem finding somebody else.

Freek Well... You can leverage dual-pin to your advantage maybe in this case. One card can link to two accounts. Just means that for the secondary you can’t use contactless payments.

I think bunq Joint should be considered an in between option for Premium and Pack; people asked a lot to be able to share the subscription and they claimed they could do with the features of a single Premium subscription. I think the limit on the amount of cards is a gentle push towards the full Premium plan (which brings in more money) or a Pack (which brings in more customers before it becomes “cheaper”). I do also think bunq is making the subscription model overly complex at the moment.

In the past you had pay-per-use; this was considered “too complex”; it was replaced by a single membership, one price to get it all. Fine! 😁 That was very clear, I either pay Premium (€7,99/mo) or I do not have the (latest) features. Then Pack came, some kind of discount model when you find a group of bunqers, fine as well, I could see how it worked easily, as it is basically 4x Premium for less money. But now bunq Joint appeared. Did you by the way notice the nameclash between the membership name “bunq Joint” and a feature within the product “Joint Account”? But Joint is somewhere in between, but still not completely,.. I just.. don’t know where to place it really. And I know bunq, but I talked to multiple people and they are now getting confused by all the options.. I’m starting to doubt; is the current subscription model / memberships truly better than the pay-per-use model that was used before? 🤔🤔

Sander Yeah, I don't get why they are making their pricing so difficult. People kept asking for 1 subscription with their partner, but actually that is still not the case. You still need two subscriptions!
I know only one is paying, but it's still two.

I think it would've been far easier to understand if they had created a subscription bunq Couple where you could add two names on 1 subscription with the rest the same as Premium

iivvoo It is important to distinguish the joint account and joint membership (new) from each other. You and your wife can still have a joint bank account (both names on the bank account) with your seperate bunq user accounts. This has been possible for more than a year.

Joint accounts replaced a previous feature known as connect where one person would be the owner and others would get access to the account.

So, without changing your current membership (Premium or Pack) you can still have a legally joint bank account, with both of your names on the bank account (IBAN), by simply adding another bank account (bottom of the account tab) and choosing joint.

Joint Accounts did not replace Connects, Connects are still there. 😁 The fact that this point has to be clarified (distinguishing monetary accounts from memberships) is exactly my problem with the naming. 😛

I was just browsing through the app after upgrading to joint (and obviously a new version of the Android app) and what struck me was that the switch "I want to receive interest" is turned off. Turning it on gives me the option to downgrade to premium 😬 so now I'm wondering if this is a bug of some kind.

Wouter looks like a bug.. So you first had a bunq premium membership and then created the new Joint?

If bunq added more cards and I would go for it. But with only three cards in total this thing is useless for me.

Bastiaan That's right. I already shared accounts with my girlfriend but then I upgraded to joint and invited her, she had a free subscription.

Sander My answer was aimed at assisting with the question (I want a joint "bank" account) and is not aimed at being technically correct. We both know that connect still exist but it is now used to fulfill a different need than that of joint bank accounts.

I still share (connect) most of my bank accounts with my wife instead of having legally binding joint accounts.

As I’ve not yet found a clear answer to this:

If my spouse with a free account accepts my invitation for a Joint plan, does she automatically gain access and can she see all my accounts? Or does this still only work if I share that particular account?

Gerben She won’t see the accounts you already had. I was in the same situation. All existing accounts remain private accounts only you can see. Same goes for all activated cards you have. She can’t see them.

(I started a Joint account yesterday, so this is a firsthand experience)

Hi in the official information I read that you may open joint, shared and also personal accounts still with the Joint membership. The limitation is to have 25 accounts in 2 people instead than 25 each, like it would be with 2 premium accounts. Do I get it wrong?

Marco That's not the only limitation, you also get 3 passes max to divide between the 2 of you. You do get 10 (5 each) virtual MasterCards though.

Tobias You can still add private accounts. When adding an account, you can choose between:
- personal account
- savings goal
- joint account
