Er staat niet bij hoe duur het is voor de bomen in Madagascar. Als je uitgaat van het hoogste bedrag en een wisselkoers van 1 op 1 dan kan je voor 99 euro per jaar dus ruim 280 bomen laten planten zonder daar een extra betaalkaart voor nodig te hebben. Als je het laagste bedrag neemt en een wisselkoers van de dollar zoals google die nu laat zien dan kan je zelfs 1089 bomen planten.

In Nederland heb je in het dagelijkse leven vrij weinig aan een credit card, dus de kans dat ik honderden euro's per maand mee uit ga geven is niet zo groot. Zelfs al ik overal er mee willen betalen, dan kan dat gewoon weg niet.

Wellicht dat het voor mensen die in landen wonen waar je wel alles met je credit card betaald een ander verhaal is.

In de blogpost https://www.bunq.com/blog/how-bunq-green-card-plants-trees schrijft bunq: "The trees you plant through Eden Reforestation Projects capture 308kg of carbon throughout their estimated 25-year growth-life. Spend €1000/month with your bunq Green Card? In just 5 years, you can start offsetting your yearly carbon footprint and become fully carbon neutral!"

Volgens mij klopt er niet zo veel van die logica. Want als je met 1000 euro per maand een x aantal bomen kan planten dan is dat over 5 jaar niet anders dan nu en zou je vanaf nu dus al carbon neutral moeten zijn. Ik heb het idee dat ze het aantal bomen van die totale 5 jaar tellen, maar dat is natuurlijk niet zoals het werkt. In de tussenliggende tijd heb je immers ook gewoon geleefd. Schrijf dan dat je met 1000 euro per maand genoeg bomen plant om 20% te compenseren.

Als laatste vind ik het vreemd dat je bij een Premium abonnement het aantal bomen kan verdubbelen. Als dat aan het abonnement ligt, waarom heeft bunq dan niet de mogelijkheid gemaakt om alleen die "extra" bomen te planten als je wel Premium hebt maar geen Green Card. Zelfs als het op de een of andere manier per se een MasterCard moet zijn en niet met de Maestro betaalkaarten kan dan nog zullen er genoeg mensen zijn die nu al veel betalingen doen met een MasterCard variant van bunq. Als bunq dus echt zo groen is moeten ze dat ook gewoon mogelijk maken. Het is natuurlijk helemaal niet groen dat je een nieuwe metalen betaalkaart moet kopen terwijl je huidige plastic betaalkaart nog prima werkt.

Mijn voorlopige conclusie: het is een marketing dingetje en van echt groene gedachte is geen sprake.

Ik kan mij aansluiten bij de rest die hier zeer teleurgesteld is. Ik mis de echte vette shit die bunq deed. Nu kondigt bunq saaie aankondigingen gewoon vet groot aan. Ik denk dat iedereen, inclusief ik, die hier wakker voor gebleven is zich vet hard belazerd voelt. Trucjes om mensen enthousiast te maken...

Kan je deze Green Card koppelen aan een bestaande rekening en het saldo van die rekening gebruiken voor betalen (dus als debit card)? Of moet je de Green Card steeds aanvullen met geld?

@Simon-Magenta-Zebra#135327 als je bunq Premium (of Joint of Business) hebt, kun je de Green Card gewoon koppelen aan een rekening, net zoals je dat met al je andere pasjes doet! :)

@Simon-Magenta-Zebra#135330 the Green Card is ook ondersteund met Apple Pay, dus ja dit zou zeker kunnen. Houd er alleen rekening mee dat the Green Card een mastercard is en in Nederland een minder brede acceptatie heeft dan de gangbare 'maestro'.

I like the initiative! Thank you for thinking (and acting!) about how to make the world a better place. There are good alternatives (plant trees yourself for example) but that doesn't mean that the extra trees through Bunq Green don't make an impact. Thank you for making that extra step that other banks don't. Thank you for providing an alternative.

I see many people complaining about the 99€ fee and thats also fair. But hey, they can spend those 99€ directly on trees if they want to. That's also a win.

I have two questions though:
- since it is a credit card: what does this mean for the shops where I buy my stuff? Do they pay more fees on my transaction?
- there is an example included in your FAQs about someone from Amsterdam paying 1000 Euro rent and the upside to that should be that they are also planting 10 tries. Since most rent is paid through bank transfers or direct debit: is that amount also included in the "tree targets"? Or only the amount you spend with the actual card in shops?

As much as I love the metal card... not even a monthly pay option, really? Gonna have to pass on this one.

If the card had some added incentives, i.e. small credit line, miles & more, lounge pass or any of the likes then yeah, would jump at it. Can plant trees cheaper - unless it was an one-off payment to get the card, is having a fancy metal card really worth the (yearly) premium on top of the account subscription?

Wow, they’re displaying how many of the Fonders Edition is left and so far it is a complete failure. 8 hours counting and only 218 have signed up for a Green Card!
