  • After Update 20? 21? I tried out the new concept for budgeting with different subaccounts for different categories but quickly discovered that it was most impractical and mostly caused more work rather than making life easier.
So I closed all the subaccounts and am now back at one account in which I simply assign categories to payments afterwards to make my spending insights more meaningful. This used to work well, but since February the Spending Insights are just plain wrong. My monthly scheduled rent payment on the 1st of each month is more than what my Spending Insights report for the entire month so far. Some payments just don‘t show up at all. The Spending Insights currently report about 80€ less than that single payment.

And now that I‘m back to one account there is no option anywhere to edit my monthly budget. So I get push notifications for approaching limits that are nowhere to be found. The app seems to half-remember some budget I set ages ago and now reminds me of spending limits I can’t change while presenting me with obviously false info in my spending insights.

    This is useless.

I want the old behavior back. One Account, assign categories to payments, set limits for categories to get notified when approaching them.

And please finally fix the “all similar payments” behavior when assigning categories by removing that option altogether. This NEVER does what it’s supposed to. I either want “this payment only” or “all FUTURE payments to this recipient” or “all FUTURE payments at this location” or sth similar. Every time I accidentally hit the “all similar payments” option, I had to go back and fix months of broken spending insights. This also generates more work instead of reducing it.

    • @dosz-Grey-Goat#241749 I see, thanks for the clarification.

      • @dosz-Grey-Goat#241730 I see, what was wrong with the „Add to Apple Pay“ button? That seems like the far superior option to me, saves manual labor and time and since it worked in the past, I don‘t understand why it was removed. Couldn‘t it just come back?

        • It used to be possible to add the virtual Mastercards to Apple Pay, it seems this is no longer possible from the app? When I create a new DigiCard, the “Add to Apple Pay” button is missing, and it’s not obvious why. I still have a virtual card in Apple Pay that I added about a year ago, back then it was possible, so I’m a bit confused why this functionality disappeared…

          • @lucasilverentand#119798 Categories were improved in recent updates (there are more of them now), but a fundamental problem hasn’t been fixed yet. When categorizing a payment, one accidental tap on “All similar payments” means going through months of payments to fix the bullsh** the algorithm does. There still is no way to set rules à la “If payment to $LOCALSUPERMARKET assign category <Groceries>” or similar. Every time I do a payment I have to check if the category has been detected correctly. Quite often, it is not. And that amount of manual labor is just frustrating. If there is a way to sort incoming payments, why is there no way to “sort” outgoing payments?

            • @Blackbluefires#225730 It’s not that I just don‘t want it because of superficial beliefs, I don’t want it anywhere near my bank because it is an objectively bad idea, has completely failed to provide any value to society and is bringing out the worst in people/capitalism. All that adding crypto to bunq would do is legitimize this mess as if it were a good idea. If the European Central Bank ever reveals a concept for the digital Euro, a proper currency, bunq can add that, every other failed attempt at digital money can rot in hell.

              • Definitely DON'T add Cryptocurrencies, they are a giant scam (https://crypto-anonymous-2021.medium.com/the-bit-short-inside-cryptos-doomsday-machine-f8dcf78a64d3), a disaster for the environment (Easy Green while trading crypto would be quite the hypocrisy), provide basically zero value for society while actively making peoples’ lives worse (https://drewdevault.com/2021/04/26/Cryptocurrency-is-a-disaster.html).
If bunq were to add any form of cryptocurrencies, I would consider switching to another bank.

                • @lucasilverentand#119798 I don‘t know how multiple categories should work with budgets. One way would be hierarchical categories so one can set a budget for a parent category but have a more detailed view in the spending insights. That should solve most problems.

                  • @iPersian#220856 Call it whatever you want.
Regarding your second idea: I don’t have an opinion on that.

                    • @iPersian#220851 Definitely don‘t add Cryptocurrencies, they are a giant scam (https://crypto-anonymous-2021.medium.com/the-bit-short-inside-cryptos-doomsday-machine-f8dcf78a64d3), a disaster for the environment (Easy Green while trading crypto would be quite the hypocrisy), provide basically zero value for society while actively making peoples’ lives worse (https://drewdevault.com/2021/04/26/Cryptocurrency-is-a-disaster.html). If you want to gamble with money, go to a casino or trade stocks.

                      • @Jakob-Y#220764 But still, if someone were to gain access to my email account, they now only have to guess 6 numerical digits. I would like the option to make them guess 40 random digits. A lot less likely to guess right before hitting rate limits.

And let’s assume, for the sake of argument, that the rate limit implementation or something else in the software backend has a bug giving an attacker unlimited tries. If the password check still works, guessing 40 random characters makes it a LOT harder to gain access to an account. I understand that people lose access to passwords, but I would like to at least have the option.

                        • It is not transparent what influences the categorization of payments into different categories.
When changing the category of a payment I can only select "Only this" and "All similar".
This should be extended to a more sophisticated menu to create certain rules.
I'm thinking of options like: "If card == Main and Payment in $GroceryStore then assign category: Groceries".
This should provide certain criteria like location or Name of shop or card etc. and then some actions like assign category, automatically request money, automatically split...
If I go out for lunch every week with colleagues or sth. and eat at the same place and always split by 3, I don't want to do it manually every time. And I don't want to control if the sandwich I bought in the morning at the same bakery every time gets sorted into Food and Drink (It is not at the moment sometimes™).
Also, it is not clear whether "All similar payments" affects past payments or just future payments.

                          • The bunq account can only be secured with a 6 digit numeric PIN, by today's standards that is not remotely secure.
I would like to set a longer random password and copy it from my Password manager when needed.

                            • The subscription overview is very nice, but doesn't represent subscriptions that are paid yearly.
For example Amazon Prime (can be) or print magazines (usually are) paid yearly to save money, but in the bunq app the yearly amount can't be virtually split over 12 budget months when being paid in one month.
