Hey bunqers 🌈

Looking forward to trying out your new bunq Credit Card but have some questions about how it works? Check out a list of some frequently asked questions below:

Is the bunq Credit Card a credit card?

Yes, it's an official credit card, but of course, we made a card that works for you as it comes without the risk of falling into debt. This allows you to use it to the full extent and acceptability of a normal credit card, without the possibility of financial burden.

What’s the difference between the bunq Credit Card and the Debit Card (Mastercard)?

The bunq Credit Card will be the best card option for worldwide traveling. With it, you get the overall usability of a credit card without the risk that comes along with credit.

You can use it when traveling for hotel reservations, car rentals and all other payments that require a deposit. This means larger merchant acceptance and more convenience on your holiday. The main difference is that it'll be accepted by merchants who only accept credit cards.

Hotels and car rentals have had issues accepting our Debit Card (Mastercard) because they require a deposit and they'll only accept a credit card. This was then resolved with the Credit Card. More information on page 25 of this document.

How does the bunq Credit Card work with deposits?

If you want to use your bunq Credit Card for a deposit, such as for a rental car or hotel room, the merchant will accept your card just like they would a traditional credit card. Since no credit is used when making the payment, the entire retainer of the deposit will be deducted directly from your account at the time of purchase.

To pay the deposit, you'll need to have enough funds in your account. When the deposit is released, the money will return to your account. However, if you don't see the funds back in your account within 30 days after creating the deposit, it's a good idea to reach out to the merchant and try to resolve this issue with them. If they're not willing to cooperate, you can request a chargeback by following these steps:

  1. Tap on 🏠 Home
  2. Select the Bank Account you made the payment from
  3. Select the payment you want a chargeback for
  4. Tap on More
  5. Tap on Request a Chargeback
  6. Select the reason
  7. Submit the requested information
  8. Done 🎉

More details on the Chargeback requests can be found here.

Can I use Apple Pay/Google Pay with the bunq Credit Card?

Apple Pay and Google Pay are available with your Credit Card.

Can I use the Credit Card for offline payments?

Yes, you can use the Credit Card for offline payments up to €250. You can find the FAQ for offline payments here

Does the BIN of the Credit Card match with the country I live in?

The Credit Card will be issued with a specific country BIN for all users who get their card delivered in Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Greece, Austria, Portugal and the Netherlands. For bunqers who live in another country, they'll get a card with a Dutch BIN.

Is my bunq Credit Card accepted in the Netherlands?

Keep in mind that credit cards aren’t accepted everywhere in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Most stores don’t support credit card payments. However, you can still use your Debit Card (Mastercard) due to the recent changes made by Mastercard.

Does the bunq Credit Card look slightly different?

Yes, it does! We gave the best card to travel the world with a shiny, new look. With a reflective finish and slightly darker undertones, the chrome rainbow will be sure to get noticed on all your travels.

Will my Credit Card payments show on the export statement?

Absolutely! The paid amount will be deducted from your account immediately, therefore the statement will show the payment right away. The difference between this and a Debit Card (Mastercard) payment is that the date of settlement will be set to the first of the next month.

Example: If you make a Credit Card payment on the 14th of April, the settlement date will be set to the 1st of May. The export statement will show 2 dates - the date the payment is made and the
settlement date.

How does paying for the bunq Credit Card work?

Credit card is one of the cards included on the bunq Core, Pro, and Elite plans.

Note: bunq Free users can get a Virtual Credit Card. More information can be found here.

What app features are included when purchasing only a bunq Credit Card?

When you pay for a bunq Credit Card you'll receive a Mastercard credit card, Zero FX, instant push notifications, ability to request/split a payment, ability to accept requests, card freezing and limit setting and the option to accept a director invite.

☝️ Keep in mind that you need to order and activate your Credit Card in order to fully use your bunq account. You can see how to order your Credit Card here, and how to activate your card here.

Are there any extra costs?

The costs for cash withdrawals and top-ups are invoiced on your billing day. You can see more here.

When you order a replacement for a lost or stolen card, there's a €9.99 fee to help us cover the production costs for your new card.

You can check out our full pricing overview here.

What if I’m a bunq Pro or bunq Elite user and I already have 3 cards? Will I need to pay for the bunq Credit Card?

It'll apply to the 3 cards (previously ordered) count included in your Personal and Business plans.

If you already have 3 cards as a Personal or Business member, you'll then need to pay a one-time fee of €9.99 for production costs (keep in mind that this 3 card count includes cards that have been previously canceled). Then when you activate the card, you'll be charged an extra €3.49 per month on top of the monthly fee. If you block or freeze one of the cards, so that you have only 3 active cards in total, then you'll not be charged the €3,49 monthly cost.

If you have less than 3 cards, then you can order the bunq Credit Card for no extra costs.

How do I order the bunq Credit Card?

The bunq Credit Card will be available to order in the Cards tab of the app, the same way as all previous cards.

What are the steps for replacing your current Mastercard for your bunq Credit Card?

As you can't replace your Mastercard directly through your app, the best option is to order a new card. ☝️Remember that if you already have 3 active cards. Freeze first as much as necessary if you don't want to be charged for going over the limit of active cards on your plan. The replacing option on the bunq app won't offer you the swap to Mastercard.

Good to Know

  • You can see the balance of your card in the card’s overview page. Simply go to your Home tab > click on “Cards” > select the card you want > the balance will appear in the middle circle on the card’s tab

  • If you’ve ordered 3 physical cards in the past, 1 of which was replaced, you may be wrongly charged when ordering the Credit Card. In such cases, make sure to contact our support team and ask for a refund 🚀

  • When you make withdrawals you can get billed by bunq as per our Pricing sheet for this service. The fee will be applied to your monthly invoice.

  • You can use your Credit Card to make payments through Wise

  • When you order a card and need to add money to the Bank Account because of insufficient balance, the option for bank transfer won't appear because the payment won’t be instant and you can’t order the card right away. When you’ve already ordered the card, the option for bank
transfer will be back in the 'add money' list.

  • When a reservation is made, a payment event will be created saying 'card deposit’. The amount will appear in light orange to show you it's a reservation. The amount is taken from the account. The event will also tell you the day that the reservation was made.

    • When the reservation is released (refunded), the event will say 'deposit refunded' and the amount will be crossed. The event will tell you the date that the reservation was made and the day of the refund.

    • When the reservation will change into a partial refund, the event will say 'card payment' and will show the amount of the charged payment (this can be less than the reservation amount). The event will tell you the date of the reservation and the date that the payment was credited.

  • If you’re a bunq Pro or bunq Elite user, you can use Dual PIN for your Credit Card. You can learn more about how this works here.

@Elise#92880 Top und schon vorbestellt.

Nice! Another one from the wishlist. 🌈👊

I don't understand, this card deals with deposits the same way as the actual debit card do, right ?
What's the difference ? It looks like it's a debit card, with "Credit" on it ?

I have 3 cards with bunq premium. The article states that the production of the travel card costs 9€. However when ordering, I am getting a monthly fee of an additional 3€ for the travel card. Why is that?

I think the difference here is that the card will be more widely accepted by Rental Car companies and Hotels who insist on Credit Card for deposit payments. Other than that, it is the same as the Mastercard debit card.

                @Adri#93095 Hey,
many people had problems when a store (or merchant) “blocks“ money on your bunq card, e.g. when you rent a car a certain amount is blocked (until you return the car). This should be possible with the new travel card and you don’t have to use another card. 😊

                Happy bunqing 🌈

@krmkrx#93099 That's because you already have 3 active cards. If you replace the debit Mastercard ( or any other active card) with the new travel card you don't get the monthly fees.

@Gregory#93093 Dat zal hopelijk het geval zijn. Voor de rest doet de Travel Card hetzelfde als een huidige Debit Card vermoed ik. Online betalingen doen, in fysieke winkels betalingen doen. Ik denk daarom dat ik een Debit Card kan annuleren en daarvoor in de plaats een Travel Card. Scheelt weer een pasje.

@Phil#93101 There will be an amount reserved so you should have that amount in your bankaccount.

@Rene-Pink-Turtle#93104 Exactly and it is technically possible to do so - in contrast to when using the debit card. 💪

Does the travel or debit cc from bunq also offer protection/insurance like a regular CC? (Usually 180 days)

bunq is on a roll, checking off wishlist items week after week! 🌈💪

@Amar#93106 Don't think so. I can not find it in the text.

                                @krmkrx#93099 Hi Karim,

If you already have 3 cards (for Premium or Business), you will then need to pay a one-time fee of €9 for production costs. If you already have 4 cards for Joint, you will not be able to order the Travel Card.

Then when you activate the card, you will be charged an extra €3 per month on top of the monthly fee. If you block or freeze one of the cards, so that you have only 3 active cards in total, then you will not be charged the €3 monthly cost.

If you have less than 3 cards, then you can order the bunq Travel Card for no extra costs.

I have added this information the FAQ above, so thanks for the feedback. Let me know if you have any further questions!

                                Cheers

Bij Card description kan ik niet een e-mailadres opgeven, @ werkt niet. Iemand een oplossing?

                                    @Elise#93109 Hi,

So in our joint there are 3 People. Every one had 2 cards when they used premium.
After we made the joint everybody froze one card. So a total of 3 active cards are in the joint.

Now when I try to order a Travelcard it only gives me the option to change to premium ?
