  • @Sander#174598 Thanks Sander! That's some very helpful information.

    • Hi! So just to make sure I understand it correctly. Let's say I switch from premium to travel. Can I still top up by sending money to my old IBAN? And what if someone else sends money to that IBAN? Does it arrive or will it bounce?

Also, what if I decide to switch back to premium? Will I have the same IBAN as before?

      • (local account = local, non Dutch bank)

        • @Vincent-1#157639 Vincent, how were you able to open a bank account while abroad? Are you still registered with an address in the Netherlands?

I've looked around but most banks require a Dutch address in order to open an account. I live abroad as well so this really makes me feel like I'm locked in with bunq... I could switch to my local account but I want to maintain access to a Dutch IBAN and iDeal.

          • The survey really irritates me as well. I filled it out and said, yes, of course more trees would be better. And more clarity about subscriptions would make sense too. Who would possibly say no to that?

This means I'm part of that '81%' but I strongly disagree with the decisions you've made, like many others here.

Simplicity is important, but don't oversimplify and expect everyone to need/want the exact same plan. I added this as a note in the survey too.

I used to be on the Free plan until 9 months ago, when I joined a pack. So far I still don't use many of the premium features. Having 5 accounts and 2 cards would work just fine for me. That's also why I held off on leaving Free before: why pay so much for something that I don't take full advantage of? Is it really that surprising that people are pissed off now?

            • My question/feedback would be whether you considered the current corona situation when you decided to make this change. Besides people having more important and difficult things on their minds than their bank subscription, you can't even go to a physical bank at the moment because they are closed in most of Europe.

              • Taxi apps: Pathao and Sarathi
Maps in remote locations: Maps.me (based on GPS so reliable even if you don't have a connection; make sure to download maps in advance)

                • Also: they drive on the left, plugs are varied but usually British or European, and I strongly recommend to get a local simcard as they're not expensive and very useful if you'd like to book a taxi for instance without wanting to pay the tourist price. There are a few apps that are similar to Uber and you can only register with Nepali numbers. Make sure to check the coverage of the different providers because some don't cover the full country.

                  • Unfortunately the Travelcard is not commonly accepted in Nepal as most merchants do not accept MasterCard (even if they say so). Visa is commonly accepted though, so I propose you bring both your Travelcard and a Visa card as a backup.

In Kathmandu it's relatively common to pay by card, but remember that the average amount for food, drinks and other things will be relatively low. As a result, most merchants will ask you if you can pay by cash.

If you want to go to an ATM, keep in mind that most charge a 500 Nepali rupee fee (~4 EUR) per transaction for foreign cards, including the Travelcard, on top of regular transaction fees.

                    • I'd be interested in sharing as well. Is there someone who has a spot left?

                      • @YTL#70492 I agree, I use the same system right now.

I would 100% switch to something in between premium and free, because premium is just overkill for me right now. If bunq were to offer a plan with 1 card, 3 bank accounts and a price of 3 euros, I would switch immediately and cancel my account with N26 and my traditional bank.

                        • I agree as well, this looks exactly like what we would need! Good job Anton!

So far I've been doing similar kinds of analyses in a spreadsheet but I still feel limited in what I can do there. It would be so much better if bunq could implement some sort of statistics in their app (and in the far future on desktop perhaps). I've seen this feature being requested many many times on together as well, so we're not alone!

The IFTTT function would be much appreciated as well. This is not possible with the current systems

                          • Yeah that seems to be the case, but I never created a password for the account linked to bunq. Private matters said it would be best to contact TransferWise directly if I wanted to merge the accounts

                            • Yes you have to update your address when you're there (it uses GPS location). Make sure to double check with private matters that your tax residency has also been changed. That's the important part

                              • I had a similar issue where I couldn't link my TransferWise account to bunq. I solved it by changing the mail address on my TransferWise account, so that the bunq app didn't automatically find my existing account (the address used to be the same as the one I used for bunq). Instead of linking it to my existing account the bunq app simply created a new one, and it worked within seconds

                                • This was mostly due to the other bank's delay though. I think bunq to bunq would've worked

                                  • Today it should work, I just received my payment from Friday as well

                                    • An IFTTT kind of rule system!

                                      • @soap#48099 Jeroen, I think it is rather common to include this in a privacy policy related to payments. Of course you want to share your payment and other information with your merchant or payment processor: they need it to receive the payment. Similarly, Google needs transaction info like the payment method issuer to process the payment on your side.

I agree with you that privacy is of critical importance, especially in relation to financial matters. The policy you quote seems usual to me, though.

As for the points that other Jeroen brought up: I do agree with most of those. The only thing I'd like to add is that, here too, it is common practice for a company to say that terms and conditions can be changed at any time. Otherwise they would have to inform you of every single re-phrasing or additions in relation to new features. You would get annoyed by the amount of messages you would receive in such a situation. From a legal standpoint it makes complete sense, even if it might be read otherwise.
