Dear bunqers,

With the Russia-Ukraine war ongoing, many people are fleeing to places unknown to them. Our team on the ground (Alasdair, thanks for doing this buddy!) noticed people need a way to make secure payments outside Ukraine.

We’ve responded rapidly and adjusted our systems (within the limitations of rules & regulations) to supply Ukrainian ID cards and passport holders with a (free) bunq account. That way they can get up and running in 5 minutes and spend safely and easily.

Given the legal restrictions this account will be operable for up to 3 months invoice-free, and the total balance will be limited to €20,000.00. Once the three months have passed, you'll be billed according to the monthly subscription that you've chosen.

Needless to say all monthly subscription charges will be waived.

Important note: From 24th of March onwards Ukrainian ID cards will be accepted and verified during the personal account's verification.
Important note: From 6th of May onwards embassy certificates will be accepted and verified during the personal account's verification too! Keep in mind that due to the specific category of the document further verification is needed. To verify with an embassy certificate, please contact us at support@bunq.com for further assistance.

How to sign up

Signing up works the same for refugees as it does for everyone:

Download the bunq app from the App Store / Play Store
Open an account from the app and choose ‘Easy Bank’
Get verified by using your Ukrainian ID card or international passport
After we’ve verified your identity, your plan and billing will be automatically processed according to your status as a refugee.

Keep in mind that depending on what actions you wish to take other costs may be applicable. Please refer to our pricing for those.

Android error

We got some reports from Ukrainian citizens stating that the bunq app isn't available in the Ukrainian Google Play Store. This has now been resolved. If you run into a similar issue, make sure to empty your cache and reload the Google Play store app.

Tips on opening a bunq account as an Ukrainian refugee

Our current acceptance policy only allows for EEA residents to open a bunq account. To fit within our policy in case of a temporary address in the EEA, use the address where you will reside in the following 5 days. If needed, update your app at a later date by following the steps here.
The email or phone number used to open a bunq account is unique per user. Make sure to open an account with a different phone number and/or email every time.
If you're having issues with verification, confirm whether you're using an unsupported ID document. We currently do NOT accept Ukrainian drivers licenses or non-biometric Ukrainian passports, as they don't fit in with EEA regulations on accepted documents for ID verification.

Оскільки російсько-українська війна триває, багато людей тікають у невідомі їм місця. Наша команда на місцях (Аласдаір, дякую за це, друже!) помітила, що людям потрібен спосіб здійснювати безпечні платежі за межами України.

Ми швидко відреагували та відкоригували наші системи (в межах правил і норм), щоб надати власникам українських паспортів (безкоштовний) рахунок bunq. Таким чином вони можуть почати працювати за 5 хвилин і витрачати безпечно та легко.

Враховуючи юридичні обмеження, цей рахунок буде працювати до 3 місяців, а загальний баланс буде обмежено до 20 000,00 євро.

Плата за щомісячну підписку буде відсутня.
